Baby = Sleep position dictator?

At what point does baby dictate how you can sleep?  I'm totally a side sleeper, but last night I was somewhere between tummy and side and woke with a sharp "poke" like feeling just behind my belly button.  It was just one very quick sharp sensation, not really a cramp feeling, but definitely sharp enough to wake me with a start.  I turned over more to my side and it went away.

What was this?  I'm only a little over 7wks right now.

TIA!

Re: Baby = Sleep position dictator?

  • You can tummy sleep till the about 20 weeks. I had to stop about 18 weeks though due to it just not feeling well. Even now I sometimes sleep somewhere between my tummy and side, but more on my side. My Dr says this is fine because baby would let me know if I were crushing him. As for you, I would say the twinge was RLP and not to worry about it. Enjoy sleeping how you want for a while longer, soon enough you will only be able to sleep on your side and you will need to switch ever four hours.
