With DS1, despite the complications (big episiotomy, back labor, forceps almost didn't get him out since he was stuck on my pelvis bone), I had a relatively easy labor... Yes, it was painful, but I stuck it out til 7 cm and then had an epi and after that, I was on cloud nine! lol and recovery was a breeze, despite lots of stitches, after 2 days, I was feeling like a million bucks! BUT, I had to be induced at 39 weeks for medical reasons. I dilated to about a 3 for a couple weeks before induction and was over 1cm by 35 weeks, but he still hadn't came by 39 weeks and who knows when he would have...
This time, I was checked yesterday at 36 weeks 2d and was 1cm and 70% effaced. Last week at 35 weeks, I was still posterior and closed tight, so I've made progress. I don't want him to come til at least next week, but I am SOOO hoping this time that I can go into labor spontaneously, otherwise, they will induce again at 39 weeks due to my low BP and dizzy spells...
Anyone been induced 1st time and went into labor on your own with the 2nd? Was the deliveries (however you delivered- induced or not) really different? I feel like I had such a great experience with my first, that this one is going to be absolute Hell!!! Did you go earlier with your 2nd (although I won't know what earlier would have been since I have no idea how long DS1 would have stayed in by himself!)...
Re: 2+ moms- How did your deliveries differ??
My sil was induced with number 1 right at 40 weeks because of PUPPPS. With #2, she didn't get PUPPPS and went into labor on her own at 40w1day.
I had my baby 5 days early with a hellish long labor. No drugs though. This time I need the baby to stay into until my edd. I have a big event the weekend of my edd so he has to wait until they end.
My baby is two!!! Baby girl 9/17/09
My other baby is still a baby! Baby Boy 11-30-11
I was induced just before 36 weeks with my first due to low fluid and my placenta had aged to quickly. It was a loooong 34 1/2 hour induction, but overall good experience.
With my second, I went into labor on my own four days before my scheduled induction (again, low fluid, but made it longer). I woke up in the middle of the night with bad contractions, got to the hospital by 4am, was dilated to 6, started pushing at 8am, he was born 24 minutes later. I'm hoping for that sort of experience again!
My third was induced (low fluid again). My 19 week ultrasound moved my EDD up a week with her, but I had been charting and I still think she was only 38 weeks. I was dilated to 3 and having contractions when I got to the hospital, but they continued with the induction because I wasn't truly in labor yet, and with my fluid issues, she did not want me going past 39 weeks. She started pitocin around 9 am, DD2 was born at 6:49 pm after 9 minutes of pushing. I went from 6-10 cm in 30 minutes...during the time that DH had left my room to meet someone with our house keys to let our dog out. I was texting him and calling like mad. He came running in the room in time to get his paper scrubs on, doctor followed closely behind, and we had a baby shortly after.
This time, I'm probably going to be induced, thanks to low fluid...again. I'm hoping to go into labor on my own this time and that it goes fast like it did with DS!
I had a pretty easy and uncomplicated labour with my first. I went into labour on my own at exactly 41 weeks only 8hrs before my scheduled induction. I had been 3cm dilated for weeks so I was hoping to go early or on time but ended up a full week late. I was 4cm when I got to the hospital, got my epi at about 5cm and laboured for about 17hrs in total. The pushing stage lasted about 2 1/2 hrs and he was born without any complications. I got a 2nd degree tear and the recovery was painful .. especially with sitting and walking for me but overall nothing out of the ordinary.
My second was a different experience. At 40w6d I was still only a fingertip dilated and cervix was posterior. I was scheduled to be induced at 41 weeks and was sent in the night before to have gel put in to get my cervix ready. That was at 5pm. I went home feeling totally normal not expecting anything to happen (because the doctor told me it wouldn't), went to bed at 10pm still feeling totally normal and planning to get up and go to the hospital to be induced in the morning. I woke up at midnight in full blown labour .. contractions 2 mins apart lasting about a minute and a half. We left for the hospital at 1am, got there at 1:12am, my water broke as DH was running me through the hospital to L&D and she was born at 1:18am. So needless to say the entire experience was totally different. I had planned on having an epi again which wasn't an option and obviously everything went MUCH quicker. It was so frantic in the room because it went so fast .. it was crazy. I didn't tear the second time around but I was stretched to the point where I almost did so I got a few stitches and recovery was a breeze! Night and day from the first. I'm sure the gel sped up the process considerably but I guess there's no way to know for sure. I'm due in 5 weeks with #3 and expecting a speedy delivery again .. I need to mentally prepare myself for that again just in case! Good luck to you!
I was induced with DS1 due to GD at 38 weeks. I was put directly on pitocin upon arrival at the hospital and labored for 18 hours and pushed for almost 2. I also had to have forceps used because DS1 was sunny side up. I had a 3rd degree tear and an episotomy. Recovery was not the easiest but after two weeks I was feeling back to normal. He was 8 lbs at birth.
DS2 was also induced at 39 weeks but not because of GD (I actually didn't have GD this time around). I actually had BP issues this time around. I labored 13 hours and pushed for 45 minutes. I had a 2nd degree tear and episiotomy this time. Recovery was much easier. DS2 was 9 lbs 10 oz at birth.
I had an epidual both times.
I am already scheduled to be induced at 39 weeks this time but am secretly hoping to experience going into labor on my own.
