s/o What are your kids' favorite books?

I am intrigued by the thought of the kiddos occupying themselves in the morning with books! What books did/do your kids love around 2 yrs old? Perhaps it is time to expand our library... Smile

Re: s/o What are your kids' favorite books?

  • Our little one still loves all the baby einstein books... right now the favorite is the "first words". A few weeks ago was the "baby animals" one. I think she likes them because she can read them to us or copy us (i.e., What's that? It's a carrot!). She also has "I'm gonna like me" by Jamie Lee Curtis memorized... she is curious about all the different looking people in the book and likes the rhymes. Good night moon, the poky little puppy (though it's too long to read word for word), Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and a new one that we love for bedtime - It's Time for Bed. A gay friendly one - ABC Family.

  • Chick-a-Chicka Boom Boom

    A Bakers Dozen

Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See? (actually all of the Eric Carle books)

    ABC Book by Dr. Seuss

    Goodnight Gorilla

    Sandra Boynton books

If you Give a Mouse a Cookie and If You Give a Pig a Pancake

All of the Karen Katz books

FWIW - my kids wouldn't read quietly in the morning when they got up and would only "read" solo for about 10m (if we were lucky) until they were about 5y. Now they are happy to hole up in their room looking at Lego and Playmobile magazines for 30-45m in the mornings.  YAY!

  • Like 2brides - anything Eric Carle, Goodnight Gorilla, and Sandra Boynton Books.

    Also:

Little Bo Peep Can't Get to Sleep

    The Little Engine that Could

Go Dog Go - or really most Dr. Suess books

DD isn't picky though.  She just loves books right now. She will bring us one book to read, then put it back and get another.  I think we cycle through her library every other day or so.

I also signed her up for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library so she gets a new book every month until she turns 5 (or we move to an area not served by the program).  Yesterday she got this book in the mail.  She loved that the pages were filled with real photographs and the moral of the story is one I like.

  • Ditto many of the other suggestions but RB's absolute faves right now are:

I like Myself and The Skin You Live In

  • Many of the previous ones mentioned. We also really like the Todd.Parr series. We have "It's ok to be different" and "The family book" (which includes 2 moms/dads). E has asked me on more than one occasion to buy more of his books, so she may be getting some for xmas. The illustrations are bright and colorful and the messages are excellent.
