Cloth Diapering

gDiapers

I am looking into CDing my first child and I have gotten several recommendations from friends to try gdiapers but to use cloth inserts instead of the disposables. Have any of you ladies used gdiapers and what did you think of them? How do they compare to the more traditional brands of cloth diapers?

  • gdiapers is what seems to spark alot of people's original interest in CD. It did for me too. There are better options out there.  We ended up using pockets but had gdiapers for travel. Replaced all of our gdiapers with Flip. Love them so much more. the gdiaper cloth inserts are a waste. The flips are good and I love the gflappers available on etsy.

  • HATE HATE HATE gDiapers! They are SO much harder to use than any other cloth diapers! There are too many parts, and if you do not have the pouches secured in the creases of the legs perfectly they leak. Save time and fruatration and do as PP mentions and use Flips if you want a hybrid or use pockets, AIO or AI2. Everyones experiences with all CDs are going to differ, but this is just my experience with them.

  • I tried them. But only with the disposable inserts. They leaked all the time and he pooped out of them a few times.

I think they are expensive for what they are.

  • There's no mistaking it, gdiapers are adorable. They are among the cutest and trimmest CDs I have used. However, they were my least favorite. For one thing, they're way more expensive than many other alternatives. For another, those plastic liners always left bad red marks on my son's legs, and snapping them in and out was such a pain. I found that they also showed wear faster than other brands (i.e. color fading, pilling, snags, etc). After just a few months I sold my stash of gdiapers and invested in more pockets. If you're specifically interested in a hybrid diaper, I second the other ladies' suggestion to go with Flips. If you don't care about whether they're hybrids or not AIOs/AI2s or pockets are very user friendly and comfy. Good luck!
  • We use gs and love them as well. Yes, we have gotten some leaks but we find that that is usually because we haven't changed our little guy soon enough. We use the cloth inserts on a day to day basis and the flushies at night/on trips.

A friend of mine who uses BG for her two little ones and I spoke recently about the price different between the two brands. Mind you we didn't get specific in calculating our costs but it appears that we will end up paying about the same price. The difference is that she had to buy all of her diapers up front where as we can space out the purchases a bit more since gs come in sizes. It really all depends on how many covers you want (which I will wash at least once a week) and how often you want to wash diapers (we can go about two days so 18 cloth inserts).

  • I got the two pack of gDiapers at EarthFare, along with some bio-inserts. I think they are good for traveling, but I would not use them full time. I also have not bothered getting gCloth inserts and use my pre-folds in them just fine. I have tried them through the night - bad idea, as you do get leaks.

Since you are new to cloth diapering, I just thought I would say - Jump in with both feet! I know it might be a little intimidating, but it is so worth the money saved and knowing that you aren't putting a bunch of chemicals next to your LO.

I highly recommend Cloth-eez pre-folds (as I'm sure many of us on here do!), which can be found through Green Mountain Diapers. I am convinced that cotton is best for full time use. A lot of people really like insert-AIOs that contain polyester, but they tend to build up stink and stuffing the diapers ends up taking up so much time. If you have any questions, we are all here to help you!
