Thanks for all of the support, T&P, etc last week. It really means a lot
So our 3 day study didn't go as planned. It was a HUGE mess from the beginning. When we got to the hospital to check in, our room wasn't ready. We had to wait in pre-admitting for about an hour and then headed up to the room. Once we got to the room, I was told that Hilyer couldn't eat by mouth anymore. Luckily, he had taken a bottle down in pre-admitting. They did all the usual stuff - temp, weight, length, etc. Then said "a doctor will be in shortly." The dr that came in had NO background on H at all. She was going to do a typical NG tube and go from there. After explaining to her what we were there for and the type of tube we needed, she decided to check with H's dr before proceeding. H's dr confirmed what I told her, but the radiology dept wouldn't put the tube in at night. So we were at the hospital for the night, but couldn't start our 72 hours of observation.
The dr said she would put in the order so the tube could be done "first thing in the morning". At 9:00 Friday morning, it had not been put in. Come to find out, radiology never received the order - grr! The order was put in and they said they would put the tube in at 11:30. Then they called at 10:15 saying they had an emergency and H was being pushed to 1:30. I was fully outraged at this point.
Around 11:00 or so, H's dr came in to see how things were going. He was shocked that the tube wasn't in yet and said "let me find out what's going on". He came back and gave us the same answers as we had been told. At the point DH spoke up and said "why are we here if we can't start the 72 hours?" (It was planned so that I wouldn't have to miss work.)
And after talking with the dr, I asked "what scenario is possible to see this weekend that does NOT end with a g-tube being placed? He said "my recommendation is that we do the g-tube regardless of what we see this weekend."
So after that last comment, we decided to check out. If there was no point to the study other than to provide more evidence that Hilyer needs a g-tube, then DH & I didn't see the point in staying.
Hilyer had an upper GI done before we left on Friday because the surgeon needed it before the surgery. Luckily, H's dr has a good relationship with the surgeon and he's going to get us in this week.
Still waiting on the call to tell us when to be at the hospital for surgery. But by the end of this week, Hilyer will have a g-tube, possible Nissin and both hernias repaired.
Re: Update on H
Wow, what a rough weekend. I am sorry you had to go thru all that for seemingly "nothing".
I am glad they'll be able to get H in for surgery this week and you have all my T & P's that it all goes very smoothly and he recovers quickly.
If you need anything, FB or email me.

That is obnoxious. I am so sorry you had to deal with that. AND, why the heck didn't they tell you they would do the G tube regardless. It would have saved a lot of frustration.
T&P to you and H!
We'll miss you sweet Debbie Girl (4.21.12) and sweet Cindy Girl (8.9.12)
Ugh, I'm just now reading this and I'm still annoyed for you! The whole situation just put you through so much unnecessary stress!
Let me know when the schedule H's surgery and if you need anything.
