Hysterosalpingogram (HSG, or tubogram)

hello,

I do not post, but I do read most post. I was wondaring if anyone had a tubogram done? Does it hurt a lot? What was your expirience?

We have one four cycles of IUI and now my insurance wants me to have this test done before covering anything else. I do have one child thru IUI, but last time it worked on the second try.

thanks for all your help.

  • Experiences vary from no pain at all to excruciating pain...it really just depends on the person...and also whether or not there are any complications or issues (blocked tubes, etc.)

For me personally, the HSG wasn't too bad. I took 800mg. of Ibuprofen about 30 minutes prior. I had some cramping during the procedure and a little after but I went right back to work afterward.

  • Mine was a long time ago, but I do know for sure that I took Tylenol before the procedure, and although the place was an hour from my house, I was able to drive myself.  I don't remember it being much more than cramping.

  • I had a HSG last month. It was not a very pleasant experience for me, but I am missing one tube so the RE told me it will hurt more. Once the procedure was over, I dressed and went straight back to work and was fine thereafter. It only lasts a few moments if you get any pain at all (Some get none), you will be fine. Sadly most of us have to get one done.

  • I had one done last month. I also took ibuprofen beforehand and it wasn't much more unpleasant than a standard trip to the gyno.

  • I had one done 3 weeks ago, its it uncomfortable for sure and I thought it was kind of painful but it could have been worse, at least I thought so but its pretty quick, I spent more time waiting for my dr then the actual test itself...it took like 2 min....you will be fine, I did take a couple advils...
