Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Ridiculous baby outfits

Seriously, I don't get it. I want my baby to look like a person. Not a dog, cow, duck, stripper, or reindeer.

I was looking for zipper fleece one piece outfits and EVERYTHING has ears. Come on! It's like baby's first year is one big Halloween costume.

Please tell me I'm not the only one? I try to tell the Grandparents. "If you wouldn't go out in public wearing it, DS doesn't want to wear it either."

Re: Ridiculous baby outfits

  • Thank you!!!  I wanted to post this the other day but never did.  I HATE that every hat I've looked at for DD has ears.  Must my baby be a bear all winter??  I really just want her to be a baby, nice and warm!

  • While I can respect your position, I disagree. lol I don't go crazy with the outfits but I do love me some ears. I'm okay with them not looking like a person yet.

  • I LOVE ridiculous baby outfits.  LO has a hat on right now that's a bear, and it's amazingly adorable.  If you like "people" clothes for babies, check out Janie and Jack.  (We're more of a Gymboree family, lol).

  • I love me some ridiculousness. They have plenty of time to grow up and look like real people, IMO Wink

ETA: That being said, I wouldn't want my kid to look like a stripper either. Ever. ?!

  • For me "ridiculous" baby outfits are frilly, lacy dresses or stiff, uncomfortable jeans.  I don't want my baby to be uncomfortable at all.

I actually like the little animal hoods with ears.  But I've had no problem finding fleece jackets and winter clothes without the animal theme.  The hard part with a girl is finding any non-pink clothes.  I hate pink.

  • I also love the cute clothes with ears. I figure that when they get older they won't let us dress them anymore, so might as well enjoy it now. As long as my baby is warm and comfortable, I don't see the harm in having a little fun with clothes.

  • I don't totally disagree with you, but on the other hand, I don't think babies need to look like little adults. They are still BABIES. It's okay for them to where something you or I wouldn't wear IMO. What's the rush to grow them up?

  • My kid rocks a shark hoodie.  I'd totally where it if it were adult size.  I dress my baby ridiculously but I dress myself ridiculously also, so it's all gravy.

  • Aww. I love the little animals hats. We have a ton from Carters but LO hates wearing hats :(

Also I think the little hoodies with ears are adorable. I agree with PP, they have plenty of time to look like people. I want to dress her like a baby animal whenever I can.

I totally agree with you, some of the stuff is just too cute to pass up!  And we have such a short time when they're this little.

Seriously. Bring on the fuzzy ears, but for the love of god, give me some girl clothes that are not pink, frilly and flowery.

Luckily LO wears hats well because I LOVE them!  We have a ton.   Also I love animal ears; DS has an adorable Peter Rabbit outfit with ears and little bunnies for feet; too cute!

  • I don't mind the ears and I love animal hats. I found some fleece zipper pjs at Sams. Very comfy and no animal ears. I am not a fan of pastels.

That! I love the Fuzzy Bear Zip-up! We don't do hats often but if we do I think the ears are cute.

Amen. My family knows not to get DD any crazy pink clothes.

My SIL gave us a hand-me-down fleece zip up suit w/o ears that came from Lands End. Sadly, I don't see  it on their website anymore. DD hasn't worn it  yet 'cause we've been wearing the striped bear suit from Old Navy!

My beef with baby clothes is that it seems like everything has to say something. I'm so sick of jammies that say 'Mommy's Angel' or 'Daddy's Girl.' More than once, I've seen what I think are really cute unisex jammies only to read the little tag that says 'Mommy's handsome boy.'  Annoying!

  • I love it when my LO looks like a bear, monkey, etc.  I agree with PP's that he can dress like a grown up when he's older -- and then I'll be wishing he was in his cute little bear/monkey outfit again ;c)

  • Considering I saw a kid dressed as superman at Home Depot today, I'm gonna have to disagree.  Kids love to dress up. I've seen kids in costumes in lots of stores (not just around Halloween).

Babies aren't little adults.  They don't analyze their clothes.  They are creatures of comfort.

Ridiculous baby clothes are clothes that are stiff and scratchy.  Not those that have animals on the feet or ears or capes.  That's just fun.  I was showing Gabe his new clothes today (all sleep-and-plays) and he got SOOO excited to see the bold prints and ducks/dogs/etc on the butt and feet.

ITA. Aubree loves bold prints and will coo when looking at them. I also find that anything she is uncomfortable in goes out the window. We went to a wedding today and while I looooved dressing her up in a little frilly dress with tights and a sweater, she was uncomfortable and the dress kept riding up. She was MUCH happier once we got to the reception and she put on a comfy onesie and pants.

To PPs about hats, I wish Aubree liked them. She will barely tolerate headbands, she screams like crazy when I try to put a hat on her. Which stinks because she has some SUPER cute ones....meh lol. I also love the fleece jackets with ears. A looks so darn cute, she will have plenty of time to worry about looking like a little adult when she is older.

I agree that the animal outfits are super cute my DH on the other hand does not... he hates them and won't dress him in them even if that I was I have laid out for the day!

  • DS is nearly three and would love me forever if I bought him a hat with ears. He wears his animal themed hooded towels around the house for fun. lol.

I don't mind the ears. It's fun! There's plenty of time to dress them in clothing for adults. :)

  • This thread reminds me of that commercial where the little boy is dressed up all crazy like a superhero and his parents are like, "we aren't going out to eat if you don't go change into normal clothes" (or something like that).  He doesn't change, so they order in their dinner (or maybe cook up a pizza).  I don't exactly remember the commercial, but it always bugs me that the parents refuse to go out in public with their kid.  Obviously, he's confident being who he is & wearing what he finds comfortable.  I say let the kids be kids...have fun, be imaginative...and until they can choose their own clothes, have fun dressing them up in what you find cute.

Same here. I hate when babies are dressed in clothes that aren't even comfortable for adults to wear let alone babies. Another one is the flip flops and things like that for newborns.

OP go to the Gap. They have tons of coats with no ears.

  • I was actually just thinking about this the other day, but in a different way...I cannot resist the clothing with ears...It's like anything with ears I must but. Baby Gap hoodie with ears? Have it in three colors. Old Navy? Give me all the ears you got.

The marketing people have me all figured out.

I'm totally teasing you...but you know putting a baby in a pumpkin, that's not a normal baby thing either.  :)  Baby's don't live in pumpkins.  Or chill out in pumpkins under normal circumstances.

  • I wish more places sold the solid color non-pastel onesies. So far Buy Buy Baby is the only place I have found that does. I love my gemtones.

One of my favorite things is DS's monkey pjs. When my sister was little, she wore my dads work gloves on her feet and called them monkey feet. So when I found these pjs, I dressed DS up in them and said "Sis, look! Monkey feet!" Everyone got a good laugh from it.

I'm dressing DS up in a santa outfit for the picture Tuesday. I want to get in the fun outfits while I can!
