Just wanted to let everyone know that Colton Eric arrived Thursday the 10th, at 9:07pm.
Thursday morning at 7:30 I started having contractions that were more regular. I felt like I had to use the bathroom, and when I wiped there was a TON of blood! I called my DH and said to get home we had to leave now.
We got to the hospital at around 9am, my contractions were every 2-3min. They checked me and I was 3-4cm. They said they were keeping me since my contractions were real labor and I had so much bloody show.
L&D was really busy and there was no bed available, so I was in triage for 4 hours...they started an IV and gave me nubain. It worked but it made me groggy. They gave me a second dose later, and it really didn't help, which they said is common.
The best part was that my doctor was on call! (there are 7 OBGYN's in the practice, so whoever is on call the day you're there is who will deliver you). She came in and told me that when I got to a room she would break my water. When I got to my room, the OB had to do a C-section so then I had to wait. They asked me before if I was wanting an epidural and I said yes! It didn't really hurt that bad that I absolutely wanted one that minute, but I didn't want to put it off and then have it be too late (good thing I didn't wait!)
When she finally came in to break my water it was 5:00pm. I was dilated to 5cm when she checked me. She broke my water, and it was clear and baby was fine. at 6:00 they checked me and I was 6-7cm dilated. At 6:30 I told DH to get the nurse b/c I felt like I had to push. My MIL, FIL, mother and step father were all in the room (never thought I'd want that, but looking back I wouldn't have had it any other way!). The nurse came in with the resident, and checked me and said "she's at 10 and 100%, just feel a little lip on the one side." She said she'd recheck me in 15min and i'd probably be ready...that went FAST!
at 6:45 I was complete and ready to go...and I felt the need to push. Well, my OB was across the hall delivering another baby! To make a long story short, I pushed for 2 hours! He was born at 9:07pm, weighing in at 7 pounds, 3 ounces, and 21 inches long. He was bigger than we thought, being 3 weeks early, and since I progressed so quickly I tore
I didn't want an epesiotomy "just because", but my OB said that had she known he was going to be 7lbs she may have done one. I tore pretty bad, 3rd degree, it took her over an hour to stitch me up. She had the NICU team check him over just because he was 3 weeks early, and he was fine.
I had a pretty rough night the first night, I was bleeding a lot and they had to keep expelling clots (It was very painful). It finally slowed down. They did an ultrasound to make sure there were no more in my uterus, and that was fine.
All in all, we are doing pretty well. It's only really painful when I'm getting up from lying down or sitting. Once I get up and moving the pain subsides. We are going home today (hopefully, they took my catheter out and as long as I can use the restroom they will let me leave). We're having some trouble with him breastfeeding (but he's getting better, he had an uncoordinated suck) but I started pumping last night so that I would start producing, and I'm producing colostrum more and more at each pump. We're giving it him with my finger, and I gave him some in the bottle this morning and also tried to feed at the breast, the nurses said he's getting better at every feeding.
Sorry so long, here's a pic!
