I have a friend whose LO does dance, gymnastics, gymboree and swim classes. While I can't see doing those all at once (a. Time, b. Cost) I was thinking we should get our boys involved in something consistent. Right now we pretty much just go to the park, children's museum, zoo etc. for our outings. We went to a gymboree by our house and it looks like fun but is 130$/ month for both boys.
Is this typically the price range for classes? Is it worth it for the price? Can you manage two toddlers in a class like that? Any suggestions on other activities/classes at this age (almost 2)?

Re: What activities are your LOs involved in?
Right now my boys go to a Parent's Day Out program every Friday morning. It is from 9-1 and $21 for each boy and worth EVERY PENNY!
Last year we did Gymboree when they were about 14 months and I did fine with them by myself, but I'm not sure I would do both of my boys by myself now. We did a trial class at My Gym last week. It was okay having both boys there, but circle time was difficult because they didn't really want to participate. My mom agreed to watch one of them and the baby so I can just take them one at a time. In January, we are going to do a park district art class. Another good activity is story time at the library, or maybe a music class? Our library's story time is only 20 minutes, which is perfect because they won't sit for much longer than that. I don't know about your boys, but mine like to be on the go constantly. That's why I really like My Gym-it's constant activity. It's pricey like Gymboree, but I bought a groupon for it.
Hope this helps! I would love to do swim lessons and soccer and all the other fun little classes that are offered, but the cost and logistics of two just make it difficult.
Emerson goes to preschool 5 days a week 8:30-11:30 and the babies go to Mother's Day Out 3 days a week 8:45-11:45. Emerson does ballet once a week.
Really, nothing starts for kids around here until they are four years old. When the babies get old enough, it is going to be expensive!!!!!
We did a Music Together Class over the summer and I had to took someone with me each week because they were all over the place, I probably could have done it on my own, but there were times where it would have been tough. We only did one session because I'm a teacher and was off for the summer so it's harder now while I'm working and the summer session was less expensive.
In the past few weeks we've gotten memberships to the Zoo and the Discovery Museum because we do feel the girls are high energy now and they need more stimulation lately. Each membership was $100, but I feel worth every penny since it's for a year. My girls don't like to spend much time in the stroller, they usually RUN in opposite directions, so we really need two people to take them to either place.
We are planning on doing swimming classes at the YMCA after the holidays (again both H and I will have to go). I taught at Gymboree when I was in grad school and I think their toddler classes are great and that's probably a place I could handle both girls because there are foam pads everywhere and everyone is laid back when the kids do their own thing, but they don't have evening classes and they are VERY expensive.
I've had my girls in different park district classes since they were 5 months old. The classes range anywhere from about $75-$100 for both of them for 10 weeks (the classes meet once a week). I met a few moms in one of the classes that I became friends with. So now every Monday and Wednesday, we get together for playdates. Also, our park district has open gym twice a week, where you can pay $1 per child each time you go. Our library also has story hour (which is 20-30 min) that is free. I will probably plan on looking into other activities once they're a bit older.
When they turn 3 I plan to put them in T-ball and maybe the WeeFit class at the Y.
I checked at our local community center. There was ONE class that allowed 1 adult with 2 kids. It was a music/dance sort of class with boys and girls. It was a 9wk class and we went through it twice. It was under $200 for both kids for 9wks. It was a 45min class that always lasted an hour. I also had to add the cost of someone to take them, or watch the baby while I took them.
We don't have a Gymboree close by and it sounds a little pricey.
The only other organized thing we've done so far is weekly storytime at the library.
