night time diaper changes

DS pees---A LOT!!! I have to change him at least 4 times a night... He gets fed before bed, once around 1 AM and then again at 6 AM.... Eventually we will start taking out the middle feed, but how will we ever make it through the night in one diaper??? You can't change is diaper w/o him waking up, so I'm not sure how to go about not feeding him, but waking him up to change a diaper... And we HAVE to change the diaper otherwise it doesn't hold any more pee and then we have to change his clothes too.... is it normal for them to pee this much?

Re: night time diaper changes

  • Mine does not pee that much, so I'm afraid I can't offer much help from personal experience.  My mom said my brother did and they just double diapered him at night with his size and then the next size up.  My friend said she used to stick a maxi pad in the diaper to give extra absorbency.  However, if your LO is filling the diaper that much, maybe just double check with the pedi. to make sure the kidneys are working properly.

  • Cloth diapers will solve your problem.  DD pees a ridiculous amount at night and we don't change her.  We use a fitted bamboo diaper (from sbish), extra hemp doublers (from sage diapers), and a wool cover (from babeegreens).  No way can any child pee through that.

  • We CD so I don't have any diapering tips but when they stop waking up to eat so much at night they start peeing less so that will help.

  • Hmmm, my LO does seem to pee a lot as his diaper is near to bursting after waking up in the morning.  He goes down at 7 and doesn't get a new diaper until 7 the next morning when he wakes up.  We're using Huggies Lil snugglers.  Are there overnight diapers you can use?  What about double diapering??  I've never heard of anyone doing it but I might be willing to give it a try to see if it helps.

I don't CD but when researching read up on the hemp soakers that are used.  I think they are extremely absorbent.  IDK if they would help or not but you could check it out or ask over on the CD board.  GL!

  • Try using the overnight super-absorbency diapers. Also, consider going up a size for night-time diapering ... that way there is more surface area.
