Sorry I'm so late getting to this...work has gotten crazy busy the past couple of days and I am behind on things here on the nest.
I've been complimented a lot on this recipe and I am the known cookie maker for our family at Christmas. These cookies really are soft. Not those hard, grainy sugar cookies we all love to hate. These are delicious and even super tasty without frosting.
1 c butter
1 c Crisco (I use the butter flavored)
1 c sugar 1 c powdered sugar 2 eggs Cream together and then add 2 tsp vanilla 1 tsp salt 1 tsp cream of tartar 1 tsp baking soda 4 c flour Mix well and then form into 2 flattened rounds of dough. Wrap in waxed paper and chill for at least 2 hours (you can let it chill overnight you might just need to let it warm to room temp a bit when you are ready to bake). For cookie cutters: use plenty of flour to roll dough out to ?? thickness and cut shapes. For just round cookies: roll the dough into balls the size of walnuts, roll them in sugar and flatten them with a glass bottom covered with sugar. Bake at 350F for 10 minutes. Don?t over-bake, they should not be brown on the bottom. Frost and decorate the cutouts to your heart?s content and enjoy!
