NBR: Feeling a little nervous...

My husband just applied for his dream job.  Normally I would be all excited, except that it is in New York City.  Eeek! Surprise

I would love for him to get it, but the idea of moving to NYC during the middle of a high risk pregnancy is not very attractive...  Plus I have no idea what we'd do with our house.  We have a house with an in-law apartment on 4 acres of land in horse country.  My parents can't afford to buy us out, and no one is buying in our area.

So if anyone wonders where I am...  I'll be sticking my head in the sand.

  • Wow I can't imagine what your thinking. Try not to stress out too much. *hugs*

  • Yikes!  Try not to stress too much... things will work out as they should!

  • It would totally suck, but I have a friends whose DH commuted to NYC on the train for several months...

  • Oh - wow.  Is this really something he's seriously considering?  Going from your current situation to NY esp with 2 kids would be drastic.  Exciting - but drastic!!

Anywho, if you need any advice on the NY end down the road - or just an apartment shopping buddy - you know where to find me!

  • Rags-

This is TOTALLY serious...  which is what has me so nervous.  He talks about this job every night, checks his resume status multiple times in the evening.  He is 1 semester away from finishing his grad degree and is already trying to find an on-line class that he can take in case we move.  We were suppossed to be buying my parents out of the property we own together, but now that is on hold.

My agency has a branch office in NY, so I could possibly get a transfer and keep my GS level.  Do you know where I can find some COLA calculators for NY vs DC, or do you think the pay is pretty comparable?

  • Looking at the Federal GS pay scale, NY seems to be a little bit higher than the DC area.  The locality payment is like 24% in Dc and 28% in NY.  And if you made a lateral move they have to keep you at the same level.

  • Thanks Cooper!  Sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees!  I should have thought to look at the locality pay on OPM.
