What does your (toothless) baby eat?

Molly doesn't have teeth yet but she's definitely eager for finger foods.  We've tried "puffs" but I think they're initially too hard for her (she spits them out.)

I'm thinking of really really well cooked:

little pasta

potato/sweet potato

egg/egg yolk (?)

ripe banana in small chunks (not cooked)

Any other ideas?

Re: What does your (toothless) baby eat?

  • annie just got her first tooth and is 11 mo and is basically on table food.  i give her at least one puree/applesauce at every meal as well, but she eats what we eat (with the exception of acidic foods, she has a sensitive belly/bottom)

try eggs, edamame, peas, banana, slices of string cheese, tiny pieces of hotdog or turkey, etc

  • DD didn't get her first tooth til after 10 months.  She loved things like yogurt melts, cheerios (started out soaking them in milk), blueberries, watermelon, ripe peaches and pears, cheese, chicken, turkey, peas, tortillas with melted cheese or cream cheese, pancake, steamed broccoli.  Really anything that we could cut small enough and that was fairly soft she could eat.
  • DD#2 is still toothless at almost 12 months and she can eat most things as long as they're cut into small/er bits.  We do ravioli (if canned, I drain the tomato sauce), mac and cheese, chicken or tofu nuggets, veggie burgers, pizza, drained canned veggies or well cooked fresh ones, cheese, eggs (scrambled or HB), pancakes, waffles (not toasted), cooled oatmeal, bagels, muffins, turkey sausage or ham bits, most fresh fruits as well as drained fruit cups, PB & J's, etc.  Basically, she just gums everything to death.

  • Thanks, y'all!  This helps a lot.
  • My toothless baby eats all of the things that you listed (minus the egg) and also steamed fruit and vegetables (apples, peas, pumpkin, squash, etc.) cut in very small chunks. We also added boiled chicken cut in small chunks a few weeks ago.

I love feeding E solid food--it is so fun!

  • Jakob didn't have any teeth until 17 months and it didn't stop him from eating anything.  Kid could gum steak if you cut it small enough :)
