Recommend (or not) parenting books

I am looking for a good parenting book for the early years - not super strict, but not super lenient either.  I like the idea of giving a child options and teaching them consequences, but focusing on the positive (not constantly saying "no").  Any suggestions?

Re: Recommend (or not) parenting books

  • I used both Love and Logic and 1 2 3 Magic with both of my kids who are very different kids and respond to things differently.  I took bits and pieces from both and use them as I feel they fit and work.

Love and Logic is good. How to Talk So Kids Will Listen is terrific, too.

I've read both of these and they're both good.  I would definitely read Love & Logic the early years!
