Homemade generally has less sugar - real oatmeal instead of instant oatmeal. No juice. Read your cereal boxes - they can be surprisingly high in sugar. Avoid the dehydrated fruit, fruit snacks, fruit leather etc. They are loaded with sugar and sticky. on teeth. You can replace sugar with other spices. We do no sugar added applesauce and sprinkle cinamon instead.
We buy the plain instant oatmeal. DD1 refuses to eat the other stuff. I make a lot of muffins and stuff for snacks and usually can cut the sugar in half in most recipes. I canned unsweetened applesauce from apples on our tree, so I use that instead of oil too.
