DE cycle off to a bad start :(

I am so frustrated.  My ED has done 3 previous cycles, all spectacular.  She got 19 eggs on the first one, 22 eggs on the next two cycles.  The last two cycles both resulted in twins and a ton of frozen embryos on all 3 cycles.

So, we paid top dollar for her assuming that we would have similar results.  Today I got a call from the RE that after a week of stims, she is only showing about 6-10 follies. I am so bummed, I don't even know what to think.  I swear I have the worst luck in the world.  He changed her meds and is hoping for some more growth but we are looking at way less than she has done before. 

The RE thinks that as long as we have 6 we will trigger her in the next couple of days, but if we are unhappy with this we can cancel and try again.  Which is of course more waiting and more $ (we are OOP for all donor costs).  I honestly didn't think we would have any decisions like this to make using an ED. I thought it would be a no-brainer and that we would have more embryos than we knew what to do with.  Has anyone had to make a decision to cancel with an ED?  Help!

I am so sorry, I don't know what else to say except that it really does only take one egg, so 6-10 follies is still decent stats, but I agree it's not as good as her previous results and I would have thought too that it would have been a no brainer...again I am sorry you are going through this.

Sending her growing vibes! I know it is not the #s you are expecting but that is still pretty good if you can get closer to 10. Hang in there! I am sorry this has been so stressful for you

I am sorry.  That really stinks.  Do you save money if you cancel before ER/ET?  If there were only 6 follicles I might cancel if it would save you a significant amount of money and try again with a fresh start.

I would only be out the cost of all her meds which we would need to re-order.  I agree with you, I just don't know what the cutoff should be at this point.  How many is enough?  The RE says 6 but that seems so awful to me based on this girl's previous cycles especially.

I am sorry to hear things are not progressing as you would like.  That is a hard decision to make...keep us posted.

I'm so sorry things aren't going as well as you had hoped.  I hope that she'll have a better response with different meds and that the ER will go better than planned.  Best of luck!

I'm sorry that it's not what you've anticipated. My doctor said the average is 8, which always makes me so surprised when people get 15+. 

Do you know how long it was between her last cycles and yours? I know people tend to respond less to the meds after a while, so having a 6 month break can improve things, which is probably not what you want to hear.  

Try to follow your heart and your doctor's advice. I hope things improve over the coming days and that you don't have to worry.

I'm sorry this is happening. That's a very hard decision, and I don't have any experience. How will you feel if you proceed and it doesn't work? And, where would you stand financially having paid top-dollar for this donor if it doesn't work? I would plan on worst-case scenario and try to make my decision based on that. Good luck.
