Extreme Pressure...could it mean something?

Starting yesterday afternoon, I've had extreme pressure in my upper belly.  Nothing is consistant, but it's becoming quite painful.  Although the pressure is centralized to my upper belly, my entire belly feels hard.  I have to say it feels differently than any other feeling I've had thus far in pregnancy.  I am wondering if the pressure is simply BH, or if it could mean something else is looming.

I'm a deep sleeper.  Even at 38+ weeks along, I don't wake up in the night for anything; however, last night this pressure awakened me at least three times.  I haven't felt anything nearly as strong this morning.

 Has anyone else experienced this type of pressure?  Did it end in a happy outcome (i.e. baby came)?
