Did you take antibiotics post-ET?

I've been taking tetracycline four times a day since ER.  Today, the day of my ET, I was told to stop the antibiotics.  Just curious what the protocol is with your office.  When I had my IUI, I was given antibiotics for a few days.  I found it interesting that we wouldn't do the same following ET.

Re: Did you take antibiotics post-ET?

  • Both DH and I will take them for 10 days prior to retrieval...then we'll will be off them for a few days. Then I will take them post-ET for a week. Probably more than most, but my dr. likes to be extra cautious.

  • Thanks for your response Pete.  I don't think it's possible this fast, but I'm already feeling a little like I have an infection -- it's not just cramping.  I'm an expert in UTIs and it almost feels that way tonight :(  If I'm still having that pain tomorrow, I'll call the clinic right away.  I have plenty of tetracycline left.

  • We took doxicycline (sp) for 10 days prior and then I took them the day of ER and the day after.  It was awful!  That meds did a number on my stomach.  Not looking forward to that for this cycle.

Ann, maybe they can give you something other than doxycycline.  Antibiotics can really do a number on your stomach.  Good luck this cycle!

  • Hi! I just responded to your other post. So glad that you had a great ET!

I am taking doxycycline twice a day and will continue until tomorrow (2 days post transfer) along with Prednisone.

It seems like they would continue you on antibiotics as a precautionary measure at least for a few days. I would maybe call tomorrow and pressure them on that especially if your symptoms persist.
