Determining cloth diaper material

I was given some prefolds, but I have no idea how to tell what the material is made out of.  I know that some only need to be prewashed once while others need 3+ washes before use.  Should I wash them 3 times anyway to prep them, or would that ruin them if they don't need it.  Help!

    I have never heard of a PF that isn't a natural fiber. So they should all get multiple washes, or a 20 minute boil.

    It won't ruin them. You're going to use them over and over and over. Why would 3 little washes ruin them?
