3rd Trimester

hypertension - pre-eclampsia

Anyone else dealing or have dealt with this out come? I had a blood test this morning because my blood pressure was off, for me and I guess there were some proteins in my urine. Therefore as a precaution, blood test.

I am trying very hard not to worry but the only "cure" is induction and though I would like not to go into labor on my birthday (baby is due the day after) I don't want The Critter out too early, I am content allowing her to bake as long as she needs to.

Re: hypertension - pre-eclampsia

  • Me! I have now been hospitalized 2x for high BP. My labs and urninaysis came back okay, so I don't have pre-e yet, but I'm a ticking time bomb for it!

I am on labetalol 2x a day, bed rest and have to monitor my BP at home. I have to call if I get 2 readings over 160/110.

Most likely I'll be induced during my 37th week.

    Best of luck!!

  • I have had Gestaional Hypertension for the past 10 weeks. I have had my PE blood work done 4 times due to my BP levels (twice just last week!). And all blood work and urine comes back fine. I take my BPs at home 3 times a day, At home my BPs are 130/80s....at the office 160s/100s! Been to triage 3 times, because that totally helps stress and anxiety :P

I have not been put on any meds, controled everything with diet so far. And I know this sounds crazy, but corn silk tea helps lower BP. i ran out for a couple weeks, and my numbers jumped. Back on it, and they are coming down. Also, I go to accupunture twice a week, and I feel that has helped. I'm 36 weeks now, and taking it week by week!

  • You do sounds like a ticking time bomb. I hope everything smooths out for you and baby.

I wish you a happy, healthy and safe end to your pregnancy.

Blood work came back clear, so I have to do stress tests at each of my appointments now. Very happy that is the current outcome. From here out, I suppose it is one week at a time.

Corn silk tea, huh? I will look into it. I have been drinking Rest by Tazo, but it has started to taste bad and cause heartburn.

I am 36/36 today and think you have the right idea regarding one week at a time.

Thank you for sharing your adventure.  It is a comfort to talk stuff like this out. Strangers or not.

  • I thought it was crazy too! When I first started it I was actually husking corn and seeping the fresh silk in water. I would hit the farmers market and ask for the silk...since I didn't want to waste the corn. Once corn was out of season I stopped, and with in 2 weeks my numbers went from 120s/70 to 130s/90s...and SUPER high at the doctors office. So I went to a local apothecary and found dried, loose corn silk ($8 for a HUGE can). I use a tea ball, soak it for about 5 minutes. I drink it in the morning and before bed. Since I have been back on it, my numbers have dropped. I also read that Hibiscous Tea is good for High Blood Pressure, and I have been drinking that at work in the afternoon. Republic of Tea has an amazing Hibiscous & Coconut tea. You can buy it at Whole Foods.

In your research you might find a couple warnings about drinking it while pregnant. I talked to my accupunturist who reccomended the cornsilk, she specializes in women, fertility and pregnancy. She said that twice a day is such a mild dose that there is no harm at all.

I know if sounds like a bunch of hippie BS, but let me assure you i am NOT a hippie in the least. Maybe it's all in my head, but it is what has worked for me the last 10 weeks! Only 4 weeks left!

    Good luck!

  • And I get NSTs every week too. Baby is awesome, super active, usually only on the monitor for 20 minutes!

  • Hi Moms!  I have been diagnosed with pre-eclampsia. I have the BPP's weekly, as well as weekly 24 hour urines and dr's visits.  I felt so alone!  Especially since I was put on bedrest last week.  This little one isn't due until February, and the dr's are telling me we won't make it there.  I've been to triage once and hospitalized over a weekend.  This is baby number 3 for me and Hubby's first.

So I guess I want to know how do you cope with this?  Hubby is AWESOME.  I'm the one going CRAZY with fear and worry.
