Babies: 3 - 6 Months

How much formula is your 3.5 month old eating each day?

I know there are a ton of "how much should my LO be eating" posts and I searched and read through several....which makes me wonder even more.

Our DD is 15 weeks old and was 12lbs 9oz last week.

While everyday isn't exactly the same, she typically eats 5.5-6oz every 4 hours.  Since she's STTN, she's only eating during the day.

So, on average she's eating 22-24oz a day.   At her doctor visit last week he didn't mention anything about her being underweight, but it seems like other 3.5 month olds are eating much more.

Anyone else have an LO eating around 22oz a day?

  • LO eats 4 oz every 2-3 hours. She ends up going through 20+ oz. of breastmilk per day plus three feedings via me - so I don't know how much she gets.

  • Our girls eat between 5-6 4 oz bottles a day so between 20-24 ounces but they also have added rice cereal in their formula for reflux. HTH!

  • Thanks for posting this. I always am curious about these kinds of things too. My son is about 3.5 months, 13 plus pounds and eats about 5 or 6 oz. per feeding. I just upped him to 6 oz. about 2 weeks ago. I would say he eats about 5 times a day.

  • I wouldn't worry too much, as long as the pedi isn't concerned and she seems to be on target for growing. My LO is 3.5 months old and still eats every 2 hours while she is awake during the day, 4 ounces each time.. she has a great internal clock. Sleeps all night (about 9 hours) so I'm not complaining!
  • Mine just turned 3m, and we're doing between 30-36oz per day (6oz per bottle) depending on how long she naps through the day, she may or may not have that one extra bottle but usually it's 30oz per day.

She's 16lbs though, and would probably take 8oz bottles if I let her. I'm just cautious about increasing it anymore since she went from 4oz to 6oz pretty abruptly.

  • Punkin eats 6oz. every 3-4 hrs. so approx. 36 oz. per day.
  • My little guy is 14 pounds and only eats about 25-27 oz each day.  Somedays (like today) he'll only eat 22 oz.  He had a rough start with an allergy and reflux and for a time was eating far far less than that, but doctors (both his GI and pedi) said as long as he was gaining weight, yada yada yada.  I kept saying, "But he's so big to be eating so little!" and they'd say, "Yeah, but he's big so he's growing!"
  • My LO eats about 30-32 and is also 3.5 months.  I read at this age they should be eating anywhere from 26-36oz daily.  I'd say if your ped isn't concerned tho that it isn't a big deal, every baby is different and some eat more than others.

  • My DD eats anywhere from 23-28 (sometimes 30oz) a day.  She weighs over 13 pounds.  She will be 15 weeks on Saturday.  If your pediatrician isn't worried.  I wouldn't be either!

Ditto for my little boy... I wouldn't worry if your LO is gaining proper weight and doesn't seem hungry.

  • Thanks for all the responses!

Honestly, I just don't think our LO is all that interested in eating :)

Very rarely will she even cry/fuss for her bottle.   We often have to wake her up from a nap to feed (if she's gone more than 4 hours).  Once we start feeding she does finish the whole bottle so it's not like she's not hungry!

She sleeps about 9 hours straight each night....even in the morning, she's in no rush to eat.  She's perfectly happy when I'm changing her diaper.

She doesn't look "skinny" but she's definitely not as "chubby" as some babies.

Our last appt with our pedi was because LO has a cold, so we didn't discuss weight.  But I'll be sure to bring it up at her 4 month appt.

  • 20-28oz a day, and usually 24.

He still only drinks 4oz bottles too.

  • My daughter only eats about 22-26 oz a day.  She doesn't seem interested in eating either- we will still wake her from naps at times or feed her when she isn't crying if it has been more than 4 hours.  She usually eats 5 times a day, between 4-6oz at a time.  Once in a while it will be 6 times a day and there  have been a couple of days where she only wanted to eat 4 times.

  • I just upped dd's bottles up to 5.5oz per bottle, 5 times a day.  But in the last week she's been waking at night and fussing.  She hasn't seemed awake enough to want a bottle, she goes back to sleep rather quickly with just a paci, but lately has been waking back up 45 mins later.  I wonder if its a growth spurt?
