so i am pondering buying a used breast pump on craigslist but i ran into one concern. all the used ones are just instyle where as the new version is the instyle advanced. as far as i can tell the only difference is that the advanced has a "sucking" pattern that is more similar to the actual baby (2 phases). the cheepest new one i could find was $225 and the used one is $80. the used one has only been used for about 2 months she said and comes with many extras (10 bottles, different size shields.. etc...) what do you think is the 2 phase sucker worth it?????

Re: medela instyle vs instyle advanced~ please help me choose!
I would not get a used breast pump. Even though I know they are a ton cheaper, they are only meant for one person use. Breast milk from the first person can get into the pumping mechanism and could problems for you baby...it's not worth it.
I just have the pump in style purse type one. I think the main benefit was the advanced one could he hands free, but you can just buy a hands free bra to make the pump in style one work great hands free!! Save the extra money.
I would not buy a used breast pump. They are not meant for multiple users and even if you replace breast shields and tubing, there can still be bacteria (exception is the hospital rentals).
Before you buy one, check with your insurance to see if they will cover it.
Regardless of whether or not you buy new or used. The manufacturer has a website doodad that lets you compare the features of the various models: https://www.medelabreastfeedingus.com/products/breast-pumps
I have a Freestyle. I loved it.
All of this. Well said mooshagirl!
