Hey girls...
I will be 18 weeks tomorrow, and I haven't gained a single pound during this pregnancy. In fact, I have lost a total of 10 lbs since my first visit to the doctor. Granted, I weighed in at 189 at my first visit, which was with clothes on and whatnot, but still... I'm by no means a small girl, and I understand that there is always a discrepancy between the doctor's scale and the home scale, but is this okay? I was really sick during the first trimester, but for the past month, I've been pretty good. No major issues...
I know that the baby is still less than a pound, but I am concerned that because I'm not gaining weight, something might be wrong.
Any advice?
Thanks!
Re: Losing Weight
Did the doctors say anything to you? If you are concerned maybe try calling your doctor.
My advice is to make sure you're eating healthy, taking your prenatals, and relax! It's not uncommon for people to lose weight early in pregnancy due to m/s or diet changes. The baby will take what it needs first. Also, at 18 weeks, the "average" fetal weight is only about 6 ounces, so it's likely your baby is doing just fine.
If you're concerned mention it to your doctor.

don't worry about it .. ! your doctor would've told you if it was something to worry about ..
I havne't been to the doctor sinc Week 14. At that point, the doctor wasn't concerned, but I've lost more weight since then. I am a little worried that she won't be pleased with me (despite my attempts to gain weight-- I just ate a sundae cone had mac and cheese for dinner!)...
Honestly, I'm not too concerned, but I always get nervous before going to the doctor. I worry that something bad had/will happen (even though we've heard the h/b and we're so close to the midway point). I worry that when we go, they'll find something wrong. Our next appointment is 11/8 (one week from today), so I think part of this is the anticipation of the appointment.
I started at 217 lbs and am 20 weeks along. I am averaging 201 - 204 now but am still losing weight. Baby is still growing and all's good. Starting at a larger weight you may or may not gain any weight during the pregnancy. So long as baby is growing, it just means you'll be smaller when baby comes and if you breast feed then you're most likely to lose more weight on top of that.
If you are eating properly and moderately, not over doing it, but rather listening to what your body needs... Woman with a low BMI will have more significant weight gain, Woman with an average BMI should have average weight gain, Woman with a high BMI will have less weight gain, Woman who's BMI put them as obese should have little to no weight gain.
As ridiculous as it may sound, may goal is to stay around the 200 - 205 mark through out my pregnancy. That way when baby does come and I start breast feeding I should be able to get to healthier weight between 180 - 190. With all the research and asking around, this is reasonable, realistic and safe for baby. I eat when my body tells me to eat and what my body tells me to eat. When I do have sugar and junk cravings I try healthier options first to try to curb it.
