Hi fellow Bumpies!
This may come off as a weird request, but I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to either PM, email, or Skype with me to answer a few questions about being lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered.
I'm going to school to become an elementary teacher and I'm taking a "Multicultural Education Concepts" class where we discuss ways to make our classrooms safe, understanding, bully-free, and so on and how we, as teachers, can understand our students who are different from us and from one another- whether it's their family upbringing, race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or sexuality, or any number of other differences.
We are supposed to interview two people who are culturally different from us and one of the people who I was hoping to talk to is hard to get in touch with!
Anyway, I'd really appreciate it if anyone is willing to talk to me a bit about your experiences. I'm also going to try to go to the LGBT Center at my school, but I don't know how long that will last with an 11.5 month old!
Thanks in advance!
(I used to post on the 0-3 month, 3-6, etc. boards until some crazy people started stealing pics. I don't post too often anymore.)
Re: Does anyone feel comfortable answering some questions for me?
Thank you both so much!
I'll be sending PMs to both of you in the next few minutes.
YGPM
YGPM too! Thanks!
Replied again! I'm logging off now, but I'll check back tomorrow.
I'm not sure where you are located but if there's an LGBT community center in your area, they would be willing I bet too. And if you're near mine, you can totally bring the baby, I'll watch her while you talk to my staff-babies always welcome here :-)
Also, the Center might have resources on elementary training on LGBT issues- we have done several in elementary schools, and they have all gone great.
The one that I know of is located in my college's University Center. It is a really welcoming place! I have a friend who has walked it and asked if she could ask anyone some questions. A few people sat down with her and they all talked for an hour!
Thanks for the offer! I'm in Michigan, so not too close to you
And thank you for the tip on elementary training. Although my project/paper are due tomorrow, I plan to take this further for my own benefit and still talk to people and open myself up for learning new things!
I have the information that I need for my short paper, but I will still PM you in a few minutes just to get another person's point of view. It'll only help me to talk to more people!
Thanks!
