Anyone else annoyed with working?

I am due in 8 days, and almost thought my doctor was going to induce me last Friday.

I know I am still collecting a paycheck, and it's not that I just want to sit on my butt all day and do nothing, but my work load has not lightened up a single, solitary bit. There is no one covering for me on my 8-week leave; my coworkers are just picking up the slack - so not only has my workload not changed, but I've also had to write up tutorials on how I do every little aspect of my job. Which has become like double the work.

Every email I get with a new assignment irritates me, because I just keep thinking "well, fingers crossed I get this one done before my water breaks!"

I almost feel like they are cramming in everything they can before I go out. Considering I work with mostly women (and mothers), it makes me irritated that they aren't cutting me a little slack in these last few days. Am I being unreasonable here? Anyone else feel this way??

Re: Anyone else annoyed with working?

  • Ya, especially when my work calls me yesterday to come in today and I tell her I have had regular contractions all day and I don't know if I can, and she makes me feel guilty enough to come in today anyway, with contractions every 5 min! I'm going to the doc at 12...screw this!

  • I would LOVE to start my leave.  Today is especially hard.  But I keep telling myself that the time is going to mean SO much more to me after the LO is born, so I keep saying, "just suck it up."

My job isn't one that I really get "projects" so to speak, and I have adopted the mindset that everyone knows I'm pregnant and they all know that I will be going out pretty much any time now.  I can do what I can and what isn't done is going to have to be picked up by someone else.  That's how I cope with it.

  • Yes!  Mainly because we are understaffed and can't hire someone until January, not because they aren't sympathetic.  I have been working 80+ hours a week for close to 2 months.  We just finished our big project and I told them I'm slowing down big time for the next few weeks.  My hands and feet are really swollen today...I may try and work from home tomorrow and Thursday.

  • I'm such a slacker right now.  I just can't get motivated at all to do much that is productive at work.  They aren't replacing me while I'm on leave either and I'll be out 4+ months!  Idiots.  I don't want to start anything because I don't want to leave any loose ends and what if I don't come in tomorrow, you know?  I work with all men though and they are surprisingly understanding about my lack of desire to do anything.

  • I've been on pt med leave for the last month or more, and my responsibilities have increased to writing a manual for my job and the staff members under me, a new employee handbook for them, training someone to cover me and training 2 new employees under me.  Its really irritating because I HATE being behind-but I've basically told them every step of the way to tell me what is most important to them and I will work on that, but understand that I cannot do everything you are asking in half a day.  They are blind and are poor planners.
  • I hear ya. I'm taking 5 months off and not coming back to the same position, so I've been charged with training a new person and finishing up my current projects while at the same time my manager appears to be in complete denial that I'm leaving and keeps sending me new things to do!! My last day is Friday and I don't mean this all smug like, but I really don't know what the heck they are going to do without me... Guess someone will figure it out because it won't be me!!!

  • I'm impressed that you've made it so far before starting to feel this way.  Work's been miserable for me for a while now.  And every time someone gets that look when I tell them I'm working until the Friday before my due date... or tells me that I "really should take at least a week off before I'm due"... I feel like stabbing them in the head with an ice pick...

  • My last day for leave was supposed to be yesterday...but since the LO has decided he isnt ready yet, I am still working...although I decided to work from home today so I can get some other stuff done too.

While I dont have anyone "covering" for me while I am out, another co-worker is doing my basic stuff so money still goes in, etc...so today, being the first day of the new month meant I didnt have much to do anyway...

Peronally, its not the actual work I am tired of...its the drive to work and the EFFORT it takes to get myself out of bed and into the truck and into the office.  This basketball I am carrying around seems to make just the simplest tasks difficult.  It seems I am worn out before I make it to the time clock in the morning!!

This exactly. My job is a desk job and there are 4 other people I work with directly that do the same job basically.  So, while I'm gone they will pick up my work until I return.  My bosses have been good about not assigning me anything new for a few weeks so I could complete what I had and my co-workers would not have to pick up my work in the middle.  I have finished up my work and have been doing busy work for a week or so now. I don't think they thought I would make it up until a week before my due date. But my job itself isn't that taxing.

However, I am so fatigued right now and I agree-the worst part is just getting up in the morning, getting dressed and ready, making the 40 minute commute and getting to the 11th floor and sitting at my desk.  Once I get there,I'm like "I'm done".  haha  I also have an almost 4 year old that I have to get ready for pre-school in the mornings.  I am really looking forward to this weekend when I am able to just stay in sweatpants for the day and clean my house, etc!

Well, to be honest, I did go to therapy for a while because my work was causing me too much anxiety. Like, it literally brought on an anxiety attack. Maybe I just need to go back! Haha.

I think it's hitting me extra hard today because I feel like I'm getting micromanaged via email.. like those annoying little emails, where you want to just respond "Thanks for your message, but I'm not a moron." Confused My patience is just wearing thin!!

I'm dying to be able to send the email "Water broke. See you in 8 weeks!"  ;)

  • Just has a total a-ha moment reading this.  I love my job but I am sooooo unmotivated last couple of weeks.  No one seems to get it that I will be gone after Friday.  I have made more of a concerted effort to pass things off to people so I can focus on things that I absolutely have get done but that has not stopped the endless barrage of questions and inquiries.  Oh well...I am outta here for three months regardless...yay!

  • Right there with you!  I teach middle school and my energy level has plummeted while the kids are as gung ho as ever.  I love my job, but I don't know how much longer I can be effective with how tired and irritable I have been.  My last day is next Friday so I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  I also feel like I have double work since I not only have to plan and teach what the kids are learning now, but write out plans for the 3 months I will be out.  I don't have any real medical reason to stop working yet, but I have been really tempted.  Hopefully, the next few weeks will go by quickly!

  • Yes but mostly because I am tired and am ready to transition everything over to someone else to deal with.  People have been pretty good about not asking if I'm still here, which is nice. Now that we're into November, I'm so ready to be done.

  • Honestly, I've pretty much checked out at work. I am working up until 4 days before my DD but my replacement started 2 weeks ago so I'm doing the bare minimum in order to collect a paycheck at this point Smile
