Trouble TTC

husband away during IF journey

does anyone else have a  husband that is often away during the tttc journey?

he's gone 1-3 nights per week due to on call at his job an hour away. it is killing me during this emotional time. it seems like he is always gone on the worst days, when af starts, bad fertility reports etc.

it's hard not to feel like i am doing this alone

Re: husband away during IF journey

  • Mine has a really effed up work schedule too. There's weeks where I don't see him awake for 6 or 7 days. I feel your pain. I haven't seen him today. I can at least call him and talk to him while he's a work so that helps. I've had those breakdown times where all I want is for MH to be home and hold me while I cry it out, but I just find some other way to distract myself or go to my mom's or a friend's house or something. You're not alone. You've got this board. I don't know where you are in the world, but I know exactly how it feels.

  • Yep, DH travels 85% of the time during the week. As an example the last time I was ion the same place as him for more than 3 days in a row was September, before that it was maybe June. We have been lucky so far that he has been able to plan to be around when I need him treatment wise. It has been a tough journey with him gone so much of the time, but it works for us.

  • My hubby is away a lot, too. Due to his schedule, he's gone for four nights, then home for six, then gone for four... and so on and so forth. I can't even call him.

It makes TI challenging, to say the least.

I know how lonely it can be, and I'm sorry you're going through so much without him. I hope you feel just a little bit better knowing that the people on this board are here to cheer you on!

  • My husband's work is in it's busy season from September to the middle of January. Doesn't seem like a long time, but he works around 65-70 hours a week during those months. It can be rough when he is gone until late at night and working 6 days a week. I can understand how you are feeling. You are not alone (((hugs)))

  • DH travels 25-50% of the time, always to Oakland (I'm in Atlanta).  He's always good about calling me at night, though; that helps.  Of course, next week he's traveling during the IUI; he has to go give a sample to freeze on Wednesday.

  • Sorry to hear that you're feeling down. I know how you feel. I hate to say it, but please be grateful that he's home at all during your fertile time. DH is in the military and frequently spends weeks at a time in the field at a moments notice, which frequently runs right in the middle of my fertile window. It's a constant challenge, so I know how upsetting it can be to feel as though you've missed an opportunity. We're on a time crunch here since we really want to be expecting before he leaves for deployment in April, so we'll see. Good luck to you. Try not to worry, although I know it can be hard, and try to enjoy any opportunity you get to be with DH despite his inopportune job requirements. ChaCha!

  • I'm in the same boat.  My husband is away for weeks at a time for work trips (and sometimes for up to a month), so it's dissapointing to miss out on a chance to conceive.  The waiting and the long periods of lulls are the hardest.
