For those who had u/s around 8wks

So our first appointment is coming up next Monday....so excited!!!

Well, the doctor's office made it sound like they will be doing an u/s. I'll be a little over 8 wks then and I am wondering, what kind of u/s do they do at this early stage. Trans-vaginal? The one they do over your belly?

What was your experience if you had one already done. Thanks, I'm not concerned....just curious

I had one last week and it was a vaginal u/s.  It's very difficult to get a good measurement for dating otherwise.

I am also curious about this - my ultrasound is next tuesday and I'll be a little over 8 weeks as well...

Probably both.  The last time mine started with a belly one and when they couldn't see much they moved to vag.

I had mine at 8w4d and they started with an external u/s... we did see the baby but then they went ahead and did the trans-vag u/s to get a better picture and measurements.  It was my first successful u/s and it couldn't have gone better! Got to see my little gummy bear moving around and the heart beating super strong.

Can't wait til my next one at 12 wks!!!

I had an external u/s on Friday.  They seemed to get all of the measurements they needed with that one.

i had one last week (8wk4d) and they only did the external. that seemed to be all they needed and we could see the baby clearly and see movement!!

They'll likely do both.  I had my third ultrasound today and they've done both each time.

at 6 weeks 5 days they did the vagina one and heard and saw HB then for my OB appt at exactly 9 weeks they did the belly one and saw baby /HB. GOOD LUCK!

They had me come in with a full bladder at 7 weeks 5 days and they easily seen the baby with a transvaginal scan and got all the measurements they needed.

I have only had one vaginal u/s and that was with this pregnancy at 5 weeks and 2 days. It was extremely painful and almost unbearable.

I only had a trans-vag U/S at 8wks 2 days.  They were able to get the measurements & see the baby & hb w/no probs.

Mine was earlier today, at 9 weeks.  I had an internal only.  I didn't find it to be uncomfortable at all:  I had one of these done YEARS ago (not for pregnancy) and let me tell you today's dildo cam is a FRACTION of the size of what they used to be.

I had one at 7wks and it was a trans-vaginal one.  I guess it all depends on your doctor.  good luck!!!

I had my first at 7w6d and it was external. They got all of the measurements they needed that way. We saw and heard the heartbeat and saw our little baby!

I had my first today at 7w6d. They only did the tv with an empty bladder. Perfect measurements, great heartbeat, not uncomfortable at all.

I have mine on Wednesday (8w3d) for measurements and h/b (I've been a nervous wreck since my appointment last Tuesday!) , but I had an abdominal and trans-vag at the ER when I was spotting (5w4d). They didn't really see much other than the gestational sac and a low level echo in the sac. Trans-vag really isn't that bad.

I had one at 8 weeks and it was trans-vaginal.  I could see the yolk sac as well.

I had a belly u/s at 8 weeks 1 day and they could see everything perfectly. My midwife said she only does transvaginal u/s if she absolutely has to and she didn't so I was happy!

Thanks for the responses. I guess I just have to wait and see what they do. But from the sounds of it trans-vaginals are more used this early to get a better pic. thanks!
