Houston Babies

Had to see another OB in the practice today (and a mat leave ?)

It was very strange seeing someone new.

She said it looks like I will be late since I have no progress at all.  I am now reconsidering moving my last day at work to my due date instead of the week before.

When was your last day at work before you took leave?

Re: Had to see another OB in the practice today (and a mat leave ?)

  • I was one week late. I was due on 8/15 and had my baby on 8/23. I couldn't take it anymore and made my last day of work 8/21. I ended up going into labor on 8/22. It worked out great for maternity leave and got to use it all to be with my daughter.?

One thing I would recommend is make plans past your due date. My husband and I were so sure I was going to be early and we didn't have anything to do for that last week. We were going crazy!

Good luck! I can't wait to see pictures!?

  • When I was pregnant with Sarah, I saw a couple of the drs in the practice, just in case my doctor wasn't around for some reason.  And I'm glad I did.  My dr had a death in the family, so she wasn't around when Sarah was born.

I worked up until I gave birth with Sarah.  With Jacob I was put on bedrest.

  • WOW - I didn't realize you were so far along.  She'll be here in no time!! Well, maybe not since you have no progress.Huh?
  • I planned to work right up until I gave birth. ?I kept joking with my coworkers that I was going to start sitting in all their chairs every day so that I wouldn't ruin mine if my water broke. ?But I had problems with blood pressure and preeclampsia so I was put on bed rest for a week and then induced.
  • I worked until the day before my induction.  I planned on working until I had him.  That is what I am doing again this time.

  • With both kids I worked until I went into labor.  #1 started at 6:30 pm so I had just finished work.  #2 I was getting ready for work when the contractions started getting painful and very close together.  I couldn't sit and home and wait.  I am way too much of a busy body.
  • I worked all the way up to my 40 wk appt and had basically planned to do so till I went into labor. My job didn't give any paid maternity leave so I had to use my vacation and sick time - I didn't want to use more time than was needed.

At my 40 wk appt (on a Wed) I wasn't showing a ton of progress. I was still only 1 cm but my OB said I felt on the small side and ordered an u/s just to make sure everything was okay. Turned out that my amniotic fluid was a bit low, I scored an 8 out of 10, and my placenta was starting to show calcium deposits which is a sign of breaking down. My OB said that my body stuck to the due date exactly, and that they were going to induce me that Friday. So I went ahead and called my boss and she said that they'd pay me for the rest of the day, but that I should go ahead and start my maternity leave and enjoy that Thursday off since we had to be at the hospital at 5am that Friday.

  • my last day was a week before my due date. Thank goodness it was b/c I was almost a week early.  My last day was Friday and I went into labor on Monday.

  • I had pretty much planned to work until I was to have the baby or my due date (whatever came first).  Just so happens at 32 weeks, I went to my check up during lunch time, and then got sent home for strict bedrest until the baby was born.  I didn't even get a chance to turn off my computer, throw away my food in the refridge, say goodbye to my coworkers...it was really weird...

  • I like you had no progress and ended up being a week late.  So I worked right up until my induction date.

    Good luck; it's almost time!!!!

kind of similar. i went to work and go put on bedrest too. but i wasn't coming back to work. i never met my replacement and had to train her over the phone for a week from my bed.

  • I got the go ahead from my boss to try and work part time next week, giving me until February for maternity leave, which would be fantastic!
