I am getting a little frustrated because I have had two miscarriages and I know that both babies were gentically perfect (a little girl and a little boy). I unfortunately had to have a D&C with both so the pregnancy tissue was sent to the lab. With my second miscarriage I had a blighted ovum and ever sight I look on they say 90% of them are due to genetic problems...well I know that wasn't it....so what else could it be? I have had my blood tested for clotting issues and was checked for thyriod issues...no answers. Has anyone else been through this and gotten any answers?
Thanks,
Lauren
Re: Blighted ovum...nothing wrong gentically
First, I'm sorry for your losses. Sucks so bad, and we are all in the same boat.
With a blighted ovum, it is really hard to obtain fetal tissue to run a chromosome analysis. Was the blighted ovum the female? If it was, it could very well have been they tested maternal tissue and gave you the diagnosis of a "normal" female.
From what I understand, blighted ovums are pretty much always from a genetic abnormality in that single embryo and are not indicative of an issue with the mother or father and often are not repeated.

Ditto what texasmeg said. I had a BO that was a "normal" female and most doctors cautioned me that it was MY tissue.
BO's can occur for many different reasons but the most common is chromosomal. The following could also possibly cause BOs: the egg or sperm may be of poor quality, abnormal cell division occurs for one reason or another. Occasionally hormone levels are to blame. Some doctors seem to think AMA can be to blame in older women. Most doctors will chalk it up to a fluke. ::GRR::
What other testing have you had done? MTHFR? Do you know when you ovulate?
My personal history is obviously in my history but if you want to read more you can find it on my blog.

The blighted ovum was the male so it was definately not my genetics. I have also had a kereotype (sp) to check my chomosomes and that was compared to the female that I miscarried and they were different. The girl we saw the heartbeat and a week later it wasn't there...a different situation.
I actually just found out I am pregnant for the third time this year and I am concerned because, while I was taking ovulation tests, I don't know when I ovulated (they were never positive) but I never got a period. My hCg levels are incredibly low and that is two days after my missed period. The hCg was at 13 on Wednesday and 23 on Friday (late Wednesday and early on Friday so a doubling time of 49 hours). It is very similar to my blighted ovum situation and I am just feeling like here we go again....
My last miscarriage was a LONG drawn out experience with two trips to the hospital due to bleeding and ending in a D&C even though I really had wanted to just miscarry naturally (I had been bleeding for a month).
I guess the silver lining is if this one doesn't go well we go to the specialist to hopefully find some answers....but I am on 6 months of pregnancy for this year and don't seem to have much to show for it....so frustrated and sad about the whole thing.
