Small bleed in placenta?

So we had our 20 week ultrasound today (it's a girl!!!) and everything looked good, except the Radiologist said there was a very small bleed in my placenta.  He said it was nothing to worry about and it's somewhat common.  I have had no spotting or bleeding in this pregnancy, and he said the blood usually just gets absorbed.

I will definitely be discussing further with my OB at my next appointment, but I was just curious if anyone has experienced this?  I am not too worried since he made it sound like no big deal, but I was just wondering how common it really is.

Re: Small bleed in placenta?

  • I had a bleed that resolved itself around 14 weeks (well it is small enough they called it insignificant).  From what I've read it is quite common and the risk is not very high for pregnancy loss due to it, especially if you've made it this far.  But do ask your ob to get reassurance.

  • Yes, I have had one. called a SCH, since week 6 and it has slowly gotten smaller but still there. From what I have been told and read it is fairly common and nothing to be concerned about. If you experience any spotting, just call your doctor. I have had 3 spotting incidents with it and went in each time for a u/s but everything was ok.

  • I had one with Baby 2 and Baby 3 - all was resolved and there were no complications. Sometimes it can be left over from implantation and takes a while to go away.
