Thought I would share this birth story to show that a medically necessary induction isn't the end of the world (or the end of a natural birth!)
My sister has had preeclampsia since 35 weeks. They kept a close eye on her and were able to get her all the way to 39! At 39 they decided the swelling could be around her brain as bad as it was everywhere else so they wanted to induce. She was upset because she really wanted a natural birth and was told inductions are so long and painful that drugs are necessary to get rest.
Boy was that wrong!! They started her cervical ripening cream at noon on tuesday. She got that every 4 hours. For the rest of the evening she was fine, having mild contractions that she could feel but weren't really painful. At 9 pm she was barely 2cm. Around midnight she started to really feel them after the 4th cervical ripening cream. She was in SO much pain from then until about 3. 2am still at 2cm. Finally at 3am they called the nurse in because she was throwing up and in unbearable pain. The nurse said she couldn't be at transition yet but she would check her to see if she was far enough along for an epidural. She was over 9cm!!!! 2 to 9 in an hour!
20 min later she was already pushing. Baby was sunny side up but since she didn't have an epidural she was able to get into all these different crazy pushing positions that ended up flipping the baby!! After 2 hours of pushing my niece was finally born! It was an amazing experience and I got to be there for all of it!
Remember this if you end up having to be induced! Some don't go well, but some go REALLY well
