Cold Medicine

Help!  I lost the sheet from my dr that tells what I can/can't take, and I am miserable right now.  I think Tylenol Cold is on the list of ok drugs, right?  Anything else for extreme congestion?

Thanks!

Re: Cold Medicine

  • I am sick too.  I have been using Breathe Right Nasal strips at night to sleep, a humidifer, and vicks vaporub.  Being sick and pregnant is awful.

I never thought to get Tylenol Cold.  I am curious what other people say, I have no idea where my list of approved drugs are either, and I forgot to ask my OB at my appointment today.

  • No Tylenol cold.  It contains phenylphrine which is a no no.  Plain Tylenol, which is just APAP, is generally considered safe.

Pseudoephedrine (the decongestant that is now kept behind the counter) is on many "safe" lists but, that will vary from OB to OB.

The things that have been working best for me are hot steamy showers and the saline nasal spray.  I also have an Rx cough medicine but, that's one of those benefits outweigh the risks kind of things.  I doubt it would appear on a safe for everyone list.

In general, avoid any combination medications in pregnancy.

  • My doctor said nothing except plain Tylenol to keep a fever down. I've been sick for three weeks and am miserable but I don't want to risk anything.
