Avery's Birth Story

well you guys already have all the important details, but heres the long version for those of you who are interested.

I woke on saturday morning with bloody/pink show, and telecare told me i should go in to L&D ... there they hooked me up to moniters, and then declared there was nothing happening.. they sent me on my way.

i felt great all day and evening, i went to bed early and was having a GREAT sleep .... until 1:50am  - my water broke IN BED (i did have towels under my sheets) ... i jumped up and ran to the bathroom ... leaving a trail :/

i woke DH, we both showered and headed to L&D again... they used the swab to confirm that it was my water, by 3am i was in a birthing room

at 5am i had contractions that were going every 2 mins, and getting stronger ....but then by 10am they were gone completely

one of the best parts of my whole day was shift change at 730am... the nurse that came on was my childhood/baby babysitter... ive known this lady my WHOLE life and shes awesome... once she came on duty she barely left my side.

so once the contrax stopped at 10 they put me on pitocin to get tthem started again... they started to be painful around 4, and i used the gas mark a few times... at 5 i was checked again with contrax every 2 mins - but only a fingertip dilated and 80% effaced ..... the dr got a second opinion on it, and i was told we were going to the OR for the csect

DH called my mom, and her and nadia rushed down... its a 35 min drive so they didnt have much time to get there... they arrived JUST as i was getting on my stretcher (i wanted to walk to OR - they wouldnt allow me!)

i was upset about the sect, but mainly because it was so unexpected and everything from that point on happened so fast

"my" nurse was still by my side as we went to OR ... she helped MH get suited up, but he had to wait outside until i was open ..... my nurse was there the FULL time with me

i loved the spinal... i couldnt feel a thing from my chin down.... i was closing my eyes for a nap but the anathetisiologist growled me for it! he was worried about me doing it... but i was bored and had nothing to look at (i tried seeing my reflection in one of the lights above me but i couldnt)

DH was brought in and the first thing he saw was Avery hanging by one leg above me.. he came to my head and i asked if he could see her ... then we were able to hear her screaming

she was semi wiped off, wrapped in a blanket and handed to MH ... he brought her to my face and i was able to touch her, even tho i barely had any feeling in my hand.... then she pooped on us :)

the nurse took her to put a diaper on, and do her apgar - 10/10 .... they fixed me up, and put her on my chest to nurse... what an awesome feeling (even tho i couldnt feel my boobs either, hah)

at some point around here, may have been before i nursed, DH took her out to show nadia and my mom

Avery was on my chest for the drive back to my room ... we were wheeled right past the waiting room that mom and nadia were at... they came with us, and we were put right into my floor bedroom...

by this point, 'my' nurse's shift was loooong over.... but she had told both myself and my mom that she wasnt going ANYwhere until i was settled... and she didnt.. it was past 9 when she left ... my mom hugged her in tears and thanked her for looking after her "baby girl"

 

 

recovery was not bad - 11am the next morning they wanted me to shower... that was VERY painful, and i passed out immediately afterwards.... but later that afternoon i was in and out of bed with DH's help, and by the morning after that i was getting in and out on my own.

everything is going well for us except breastfeeding... my milk still hasnt come in, and avery has lost too much weight.... yesterday we had to start formula supplements (cup feeding)... which is going well, i suppose.  we need to go back to the maternity floor in 2 hours for a weight assesement and to figure out what we will do about it
