TTC After a Loss

I know it's been done before, but OPK ?'s

Good morning, ladies! Hope everyone is have a great monday so far. I have a few questions regarding OPK's. I have never used them before, but plan to this next cycle....mainly because I increased my insurance coverage and since I am paying more every month for better maternity care, I want to make it as worth it as possible, ie increasing our chances of being pg asap! Know what I mean?
So, I was wondering if anyone has any advice as far as using OPK's? I have seen that FMU is not the best for these tests...that it's better to test later in the day. Should I plan on testing only once or twice a day? Like say 10 am and 2 pm or something? I did go to amazon.com and bought a pack of 50 tests....soo glad I did this because there is no way I could afford the store boughts for very long.

Thanks all!!

Re: I know it's been done before, but OPK ?'s

  • I personally buy both the Wondfo strips and the digital OPKs.  Once I get a positive on the strips, or what I think is a positive, I'll use a digital to make sure.  Even though they are more expensive, the digitals are so much easier to use because there are no lines to question and you can use FMU for those.

Once I get closer to my average O time, I'll test twice a day.  10 and 2 might be a little close together though, maybe try 10 and 6.  Good luck!

  • I used dollar tree opks this time so I only used one per day.  Testing around 1-3pm and I got a clear positive on CD 13.  If I had cheap internet opk's I would probably have tested twice a day though.  GL!

Thanks! That is a good idea to use the store bought tests to confirm the positive. I know I will be going through a bunch of tests for the first few months...getting the hang of the process, etc. Plus, my gyno suspects I do not O regularly anyhow. Maybe I can psych my body into a regular rhythm by charting these things =)
  • I use Wondfo's and test once a day around 4/5pm and my positives are obvious when I get them.

You're welcome!  You can actually get the digitals on Amazon as well, because they are ridiculously priced in the store.

I love the Wondfo strips.  I've never used a digital.

I have a question and I really hope this doesn't come off as condescending.  If you just increased your coverage for maternity, are you sure you're covered for a pregnancy now?  Most maternity riders take a year to go into effect.  When I was out of network and got maternity coverage, I had to wait 12 months (paying the increased amount the whole time) for that coverage to kick in.

You may have just phrased your question for convenience but I wanted to ask.  That would be a huge bill if you weren't covered.

Not condescending at all. That was the first thing I checked when I was looking into it. I am self employed and so I have individual coverage. My previous plan had some sort of discount plan that was a lot out of pocket, which resulted in a hefty down payment before my m/c. I started looking into different companies and discovered that BCBS in FL changed their policy and now offers maternity on an individual basis. It is also available the day coverage begins....which is incredible! I was ready to TTA 6 months to a year. Believe me, I spoke to several people over the phone to make sure what I was reading was the truth!
