My husband loves the name Ellie and is determined if we ever have a daughter she will be Ellie. I like the name, but I am afraid of it being too popular.
I love the name Sylvia. He likes this name also, but feels like he HAS to use the name Ellie. So, last name we hear the name Elsa and thought it was a nice compromise of the two names we both like. What do you think of Elsa?
btw.... this phantom daughter, may never even exist. I'm just curious of what you ladies think.
Re: Elsa
I really love the name Elsa. Beautiful and classic. A strong choice that will age very well. I know two beautiful Scandinavians (a Dane and a Swede), with that name.

I think Elsa is a great, strong name! I GIVE IT A THUMBS UP!
However, I agree with PP why not do Sylvia Elise or soemthing similar and pull out the nn Ellie?
I think you could win either way here!

How is naming your kid something else but still calling her Ellie going to help with the popularity thing? That said, I really like the names Elsa and Sylvia. I think pp's suggestion of Sylvia Elise is lovely.
p.s. I'm surprised hannah028 hasn't weighed in yet. I think Elsa is her top girl name right now.
I don't like Elsa at all. Something about it doesn't sound good to me.
I don't think Ellie is too popular. And if you both like it, who cares? How about Eleanor, nn Ellie?

She's right! I LOVE Elsa. You're breaking my heart with this "Ellie" stuff though. I think Elsa is too pretty for a NN (and I just plain don't like Ellie!)
^^^This.
Elsa is NMS at all. It also reminds me of a large, overbearing European housekeeper or something similar. (Perhaps I get this image from movies I've watched? lol)
What about Elliana for a full name and Ellie as a nn if you're still wanting to use Ellie?
I'm not a huge fan of Sylvia but I do think Sylvia Elise sounds pretty. NN could be Sylvie (which I really like but most on here would probably say it sounds too childish to be a proper fn).

This exactly. Who cares if your daughter's name is Elsa, and her classmates are Elliot, Ella, Ellery, Eliana, and Ellis if they all go by the exact same nickname?
I think Elsa is lovely, but there's nothing unique or interesting about it if she's just going to be another Ellie, anyway.
