More potty training Qs......

Sorry I know there are always a ton of potty training questions but I have some more......DD has been peeing on the potty whenever I tell her to and wearing underwear full time (except for naps and night time) for two weeks now.  She has very few accidents but...

1.  she has yet to poop in the potty.  She'll poop in her underwear and tell me right away.  I've tried sitting with her and reading books on the potty when I think it's time but that usually just ends up with her not pooping at all that day.  If you went through this, how long until DC starting actually pooping in the potty?

2. She'll pee whenever I tell her it's time to go potty (about every hour or 2) but she doesn't tell me when she has to go, nor does she go to the potty on her own.  If I back off and don't tell her to go, she'll have an accident.  Thoughts?

TIA!

Re: More potty training Qs......

  • 1. This is what we'd do: wait for the signs that she was about to poop (she'd suddenly disappear then stand and bend her knees) then drag her to the potty. If she pooped in her underwear, we'd bring it to the potty and dump it in while talking about how icky and stinky poop is and that it should go in the potty cause it's nasty. My DD never had an issue w/ poop though so I'm not sure I'm the best one to answer!

    2. We got to this point in potty training and my decision was to allow her to fail. I had taught her what to do, but she had to learn to do it on her own. From that point it didn't take long for her to start initiating it or start yelling pee pee even if it was already starting to come out. She then got better and better at getting to the potty sooner.

  • 1.  It took us about 3 months to get pooping down.  It involved Miralax to help with constipation because N was holding it.  We went from holding poop for days, to pooping in only pull ups at night and nap, to pooping in pants, to pooping on the potty.  It was a slow process... things like potty prizes and the book Everyone Poops helped.

    2. We started with 1/2 hour.  Then and hour.  For probably 2-3 months we had to tell them to go.  We still ask from time to time now, but they typically hold it 4-5 hours now.  They also in the past month... so 4 months later are asking to go or just going on their own.  Until very recently... like last week they needed help with their pants.  That has gotten much better the last few days.
