If you use hcg for luteal support, what's your protocol?

I'm starting to wonder if I have a luteal phase deficiency. CD18 and still with low temps & ewcm and my cycle is nearly always 29 days. If you take meds for luteal phase support, can you tell me your protocol? Just curious. Thanks!

Re: If you use hcg for luteal support, what's your protocol?

  • I did hcg injections at 2, 5, and 8 days past IUI.  I mixed 10,000 IU of Novarel with 7ccs of solution and each injection was 1 cc.

I'm considering using prometrium in luteal phase this cycle since I have a ton of it leftover.  I would do 200mg capsule suppository starting at 3 dpo.  I'm not sure if I would do once or twice a day, probably just once.  This is somewhat self-prescribed, based on info I got on the 3TC board.

  • I was recently diagnosed w/ Type III LPD. My ob/gyn ran a hormonal profile post ovulation and my progesterone dropped from 17 to 5.8 on 7 & 9 dpo. Over a 50% decrease which qualifies it as type III LPD. So the corpus luteum begins to fail after 7 dpo.

    I'm beginning trigger injections this cycle on 5, 7 & 9 dpo.

  • Thanks ladies... I'll have to see what happens with my cycle and talk to my dr about it. He wanted me to take hcg AFTER confirmed pregnancy support but I am not comfortable with that. I will keep this in mind if my luteal phase is too short. Speaking of which, I've read conflicting things about the ideal range for LP. Is it 12 that's the cut off? Or 10?

  • Please take a look at my blog. I thinks its the second post where I describe the types of LPD. There are 5 types and its important to know what type you have before treating it!!! Only type III is treated w/ HCG trigger injections. Another one is managed w/ estrogen & the other 3 are managed w/ progesterone.

I believe between 10-14 is considered within normal limits.

I'm a little confused as to why he would have you take hcg after a confirmed pg. That doesn't make sense!! HCG is meant to keep the corpus luetum producing progesterone which enables the lining to be nice and cushy for a baby to implant!!

Thank you... I will definitely check out your blog. I need to talk to my doctor. his explanation made sense at first but I am no longer comfortable with it.

  • Sorry, I haven't been on much lately, but my protocol, when I do it, is the same as Twizzle's.
