2nd Trimester

tacky to register again?

First let me say I personally am not a fan of baby showers for the second baby in most cases.  I just had my DD in 2010 so now expecting our DS in 2012 we are just re-using most everything.  There are a few things I would like to by for our DS and I think it would be nice to get a little discount for myself.  Is it horribly tacky to register for baby #2 and not tell anyone, just to get the coupon.  Most of what we need is bedding and some new bottle supplies.  I am just thinking the finishing coupon for the registry might be nice to have.  Thoughts?

  • Nope! I agree with what you wrote and I set up a registry at Target just for the completion coupon.

  • I don't think it's tacky at all. Plus, people will really want to buy you things because you are having a boy this time - just to celebrate you having a different gender. We did a baby shower for a girl at work for that same reason, and we were very excited to be able to do that for her.
  • No.  I think a lot of people do that.  I know I did.  At a few different places.

  • I think you should definitely register. But agree, you should publicize the fact that you are :) I always search Target and Babies R Us (pretty much all we have here) for a registry before I buy a gift. If you don't give people this info, it is not like you are asking for gifts. The people buying the gifts are going the extra step to search for it, so they will appreciate knowing what you need.
  • I had a DD in 2009 and then DS in 2011. We registered both times. First time we had a co-ed shower and the second time we had a sprinkle with just girls. With my group of friends/family it is common to have some sort of celebration for the second baby. I registered mostly for small items/clothes/etc bc we pretty much had everything gender neutral from my first baby.
  • Saving money is never tacky!  :P
  • Totally acceptable to create a registry just for the discount. Plenty of savvy moms do this, not just for thier firstborn, but for every child they have! And besides, if someone so happens to ask you if you have one, you can direct them right to it!

  • Thanks everyone!  I won't mention to anyone that I have registry that way if they find it, I know they went looking.  I am only going to put a few items on it, bottle nipples, crib sheets, etc.  We pretty much have clothes covered and everything else I had was gender neutral.  Thanks for the advice!

  • I registered for this LO with actually no intention of telling people. I made the registry more to keep me organized. After I did the research on products, I added it to the registry. Every week or so I go and buy something off of it. Never under estimate pregnancy brain! Lists help for me =) And the added coupon is always a plus!!

  • Yeah I really dont like second baby showers either, but I do agree its a good idea to make a registry and get the coupone. Especially because registries are a awsome way to make a list of things you need and want. If any family or friend asks you what you need, you can always refer them to your registry.

  • Nope, I did the same thing! I'm only registering to get the discounts!!

  • If BRU in Canada did a completion coupon I would be registering again hands down. You don't need to advertise to anyone, but saving money is always a bonus.

  • We also registered for #2 just for the coupons. I don't expect to have another shower and did not share with anyone that we did register.

  • I don't see a problem with this at all, if you're not telling people about it.

I use Amazon wish lists to organize stuff all the time, like furniture I'm thinking about buying. It doesn't mean I'm actually asking anyone to buy me a sofa.

  • Nope, I am doing the same thing! And people are still going to want to buy you things even though it is your second, with or without a shower.
