Cloth Diapering

Yeast?

So LO has a yeast infection.  I've been using his diapers for the last week with some treating the rash with CJ's Butter.  I need to throw that stick out now, right?

Also- since he was wearing the diapers with the rash do I need to do anything special to the diapers to keep from reinfecting him after the rash is gone?  Does washing do the trick or do I need to strip?

Any other words of wisdom?

Thanks!

Re: Yeast?

  • I posted below about yeast....LO has it for the 2nd time and I cant figure out why. Ugh. The first time I got rid of it by washing all the diapers in hot water with bleach and 20 drops of grapefruit seed extract (had to order online). Then I just rinsed until there was no more bleach smell. It worked then and Im about to do that again, but I posted below to see if theres anything else I can do to prevent this from happening again.

Yes, I would throw the CJs stick out....

Good luck. These yeasty monsters are baaaad!

  • Yeah, I have no idea where he got the yeast from without use getting thrush or anything else.  I've got a prescription cream to use on him- hopefully that'll work to get rid of everything.  Obviously I have to use disposables until then because of the cream. So I've got some time to do whatever to get the diapers yeast free.

Our Doctor said it can simply be from a hot wet diaper...we live in Las Vegas and he said that yeast infections are more common than not in the summer time because of hot sweaty car seats and kids sitting in them. Who knows if thats true, but it kind of makes sense.

  • Our persistent yeast turned out to be eczema. If your yeast isn't clearing up fast or completely, you can try some OTC hydrocortizone and if that clears it up you might not have yeast at all. We had to switch detergent and stop using disposable liners

  • DD was having problems with recurrent yeast rashes. In addition to washing the CD's with oxygen bleach for a week, I also sunned the diapers, and washed all her cloth wipes, wetbags, and the container that held her cloth wipes in bleach.

Everything that touched her bum had to be bleached to kill the yeast. This was the only thing that broke the cycle for us.

I'm treating DS's yeast rash right now with cream, and just using fleece liners. It's been well over a week that I've been treating now (Lotrimin didn't work, so now he's on a prescription cream) and no issues with the diapers.
