Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Shoe AND toddler related: Which "level" of stride rite?

According to me, DD doesn't walk yet.  She cruises and will walk with one hand. But according to daycare, she walked all over the place yesterday, the little snot.  So, they said she needs some firmer shoes and I plan to get some from Stride Rite this weekend, but I'm not sure which level I should get, Early Walker or Off and Running?

I feel as if she should have been in the Early Walkers for awhile now-she's been wearing some soft soles from Payless, so I don't know if it's too late for them now?

  • Katie is walking all over the place and Natty's just starting to get the hang of it.  When we went to the Stride Rite, the person there suggested the early walkers because they can still feel the floor when they walk and the soles bend easily.

They have the soft motion Erica and soft motion Ava styles.

  • Off and running is when they are walking (many) steps by themselves.

The early walker is when they are crusing and taking one or two steps.

Do you have a stride rite outlet store near you? You can get discounts on their shoes.

For instance, I brought a pair of walking shoes (the traditional white ones) and a pair of sneakers (off and running ones too) for a total of 52.00

In the stores it would have been close to 100.

    Just a thought.

Interesting becuase they told me that Katie it would be an off and running shoe. Strange, I guess it depends who you talk to.

  • I think it will depend on who you talk to.  We took DD there when I considered her to be an Early Walker - taking a few steps independently but never more than 5-6 at a time.  The lady told me anything more than 3 steps and I should get her the Off and Running.  We just went with her advice and DD had no trouble with the shoes.  We let her walk around the store in them to try them out.  She was running around in them within a week.

Yea, that is exactly what I was told

  • I guess my question now is, how long does it take from when they walk a few steps independently to when they are running around?  Apparently DD walked all around the room yesterday w/o assistance, but would collapse any time we tried to get her to walk last night. I just don't want to pay the $ for the step 2 ones and then need the step 3 ones a few weeks later.  And sadly, we don't have an outlet near us.
  • Neither girl is running.  Katie's at more of a trot.

    I'm not encouraging the running.

  • Hadley has been walking since 10 months and I still have her in early walker type shoes. I think that it's better for her feet.
  • I was told early walker if just learning or cruising, level 2 early if walking from 1-5 months, and then firmer ones once walking without assistance for several months.
