WDYT of boy name Beau??

Hello ladies,We're not really traditional in our name choices, but want something one-syllable because in Australia EVERYTHING gets shortened.  Our DS is Cruz Alexander (hispanic last name) and DH is thinking Beau River for this one.Too "out there"?  I'm not sure..Is it common in the States?  Have you heard it before? Thanks:)

Re: WDYT of boy name Beau??

  • Beau itself makes me think of plantations and the Old South. NMS.

  • Love it. Not sure about River though...it's a bit out there for me.

  • I love Beau, but I prefer the spelling Bo (just my opinon - most on this board will not agree with me).

  • I think it's okay - it's not the worst name out there, but it's just NMS. I am not really fan of River for the MN though.

  • Maybe in Australia it's a decent name, but here it sounds like something you would name a pet dog.

  • It's not unheard of but not common in the states.  I actually really like Beau and I think it goes well with Cruz.  I think Beau River is just ok, it sounds too much like a place name.  I might pick a more traditional mn, like Alexander for it.  What about.

    Beau Phillip

    Beau David

     Beau William

    Beau Michael

  • I like your DS's name.  I like River as a mn.  Beau is NMS.

  • I know several Beaus (I did go to college in the Deep South), and I like the name.  However, most of the Beaus I know were Jrs / IIIs / IVs and Beau was a nickname.  My best friend's fiance is Beau and his name is actually Daniel Whatever Last Name III.  I think it's fine as a stand-alone first name, too though.  Not so sure about River.

  • I have a cousin named Beau, so it's very famliar to me. I'm not the biggest fan but it's not Zayden or anything.

  • I know the cutest little one year old named Beau. His parents are very cool, a little hippy if you will, and the name suits him perfectly. I say go for it if you guys love it! I don't think it's so out there that people will think you're crazy-- it's definitely not unheard of.

  • I like Beau, but I would probably put it with a more traditional mn.

  • I LOVE Beau!  My cousin already used it, or else it would definitely be on my list.  River was actually a name MH wanted on our boy list now, but I just don't know about it.  I don't know if Beau River sounds good together.

  • I love Beau (It's on my boy name list too). River is NMS but it's a middle name so it's not that big of a deal.

I like single syllable first names for boys, they just sound "strong" to me.

I totally get what you are saying about shortening names in Aus. My Sister lives in Victoria, her name is Leah, somehow everyone calls her Leer, it drivers her CRAZY. Her husband is Hamish and we all call him Haims.

  • I love Beau. It was always one of my favourite names until DH became friends with one- nice guy but I just wouldnt use it now. I agree it does kind of sound like a ladies man type name, I tend to like names like that though! I dont think its too out there at all. I think I prefer it spelt Beau.

  • I like Beau, but I think it is a bit much with River.  I would pair it with something more traditional.  I don't think Beau is too out there and I am also in the camp that love's one syllable boy names.

River is a guilty pleasure name of mine and I'm also very fond of it. I'm not sure if I'm crazy about them together though....
