1st Trimester

Rent a Doppler to ease worry ASAP!!!!

Ok ladies, I have had two mc. One at 9 weeks and one at 18. When I went in for my first appt. No hb! Doc rescheduled me one week out and told me it may be to early and not to worry. Of course I did! Sure enough one week later the hb was a ticking. I was so excited and told myself that I would do everything to prevent from worrying. So I rented a fetal heart Doppler. OMG....best thing ever. Cramo Cramping, grab the monitor, hear the hb. Having to good of a day, monitor, hb! Sex,lol, monitor, hb! It is Sokol reassuring. I must admit. When I got the monitor I was 9 weeks and could not hear anything. So yes that did make me nervous! When I got to 10 weeks the hb was vivid. Now that I am almost 12, it is solo easy to hear the hb! Ladies it is zoo worth it. My husband actually found it the first time. It was a great bond! Check it out!

  • I have to agree with you. I have my own that I got on amazon and I love it...

I know I cannot hear anything now with this pregnancy but I just tried!

  • The more I read these posts the more I want to buy one.  Whats the brand that you have?

  • I wouldn't rent one, they are pretty costly to rent. I bought mine off of Amazon my last pregnancy and I LOVED it for the peace of mind. I think I only paid around $25 for it (with shipping) and it worked great. I didn't use it until I was around 14 weeks though. Some women try using one too early and panic because they can't locate the HB. The brand of the one I bought was Angelsounds (I just searched Amazon and couldn't find the one I purchased).
  • Lucky for me I work part time at an awesome animal hospital where we have multiple doppler units and a super sophisticated ultrasound machine.  They are actually higher quality than my ob's office :)

It is a game for the techs to try to find the baby and the hb when I work! LOL

  • Unless you know exactly what you are doing, it is easy to mistake the mother's heartbeat for the baby's. When I was pg with DD there were a lot of people getting more freaked out because they couldn't find the heartbeat with the dopller and would end up freaked out in the Dr's office.

If you buy one, just make sure you know that you may have problems finding the heartbeat which could freak you out, but everything could still be fine.

Personally, I don't see the point. Having a doppler will not prevent something bad from happening, and it would drive me crazy - I would be obsessed with trying to find the heartbeat.

  • Im not sure where people are buying them for cheap.  I rented mine too, didn't think it was that big of a financial commitment.  $20 a month and I will likely return it in three months or so.  Everywhere I have looked they are a couple hundred dollars.  Either way....I took the advice of a co-worker and rented one from Belly Beats.  I think I am too early to hear it but I have tried a couple times.  I will just keep trying.  Its not about checking to see if there is anything wrong because that it not why you get one, its about being able to connect with your unborn when ever you want.  For those of us that have no risks or health issues or infertility issues we don't get jack crap when it comes to U/S's or heart beat listening etc.  So its kind of nice to have the opportunity to listen on your own and have your hubby listen.  Its kind of fun!

That's a great doppler, the same one I have. Not really a bargain though, since it cost that much everywhere else. I bought mine from amazon for that much (and free shipping)...

  • Meh.  The doppler provided some of my happiest/best memories of my son, but we've had a hard time find the h/b this pregnancy.  Granted it's still early, but it's caused me some stress, and the baby is just fine.

You have to know that some people don't consistently find a heartbeat until 14-15 weeks, and even then it's not necessarily always easy to find.  If you can handle that, get the doppler.  If it's freaking you out, don't.  It's hard to just put it aside when you are worried.
