1st Trimester

Sneaky veggie question for moms or creative people

I cannot pull myself to eat veggies! I normally dont love them, but I can sneak some behind other foods. None are getting past my nose now. I want the nutrition without the gagging!

If any of you have a picky eater, how do you sneak them veggies? Or how do you hide veggies in meals?

  • I am actually a vegan who LOVES vegetables, and since the morning sickness hit I can barely look at them. I sometimes add steamed kale to things such as veggie broth with ramen noodles or mashed potatoes because I can't really taste it there much. I also made a vegan mac and cheese with butternut squash blended in the other day. I'm trying, but it's hard. And my PA told me it was simply more important at this point to eat what I can than to worry about how I'm eating if I can't stomach things.

  • I can't eat them either actually. I think it's a fairly common aversion during the first trimester. I've just been going with the flow and eating lots of fruits instead, like strawberries, berries, melons, bananas, clementines, peaches yummmmm

  • My 7 year old is super picky about her veggies but we throw them into everything.  She loves shepherd's pie so I always make sure there's heaps of veggies mixed in.  I also grate carrots, zucchini, and whatever else I have laying around into spaghetti sauce and we find cheese sauce works miracles with steamed cauliflower and broccoli.

  • I have fallen in love again with spagetti squash and sweet potatoes. the squash is SUPER easy to prepare...just cut, steam in micro in a little water, then gently remove it from the peel...add a little butter or margerine, it is incredible! And a mashed sweet potatoe with a little cinnamon...mmmm perfect comfort food!

  • Try V8 Splash for V8 smoothies!  That's how I get my veggies
  • I have always hated most vegetables, and to this day the only way to get me to eat them is to make my mother's "loopy soup", which is what I called it when I was little.  Take all your veggies and put them in a soup, and then puree it all.  It tastes great with all the veg blended and is super smooth so it goes down easy!
