1st Trimester

Acupuncture ?

My midwife recommended acupuncture after several losses as somewhat of a last ditch effort in TTC before we were referred to a specialist.  I was a little skeptical, but I'm here now, so I've got no complaints.

I am still seeing my acupuncturist every week to try to keep everything in balance, and will probably continue to do so until we are past the greatest miscarriage risk.

But then I don't know how often I will keep going during the remainder of pregnancy.

Anyone seeing an acupuncturist and have thoughts on how long (and frequently) you will continue to do so?

Re: Acupuncture ?

  • My acupuncturist actually won't see me again until I get to 12 weeks.  She doesn't like doing it during first tri, even though my OB said it would be fine.  I'm very anxious about this pregnancy because of a prior loss and infertility issues, so I plan to go at least every-other week for as long as I think it's helping.

  • I have been seeing an acupuncturist since September.  I started seeing her as a way for me to work on relaxation and lowering my stress level as we had been trying for 7 months with no success.  Then (call it coinsidence) I got pregnant while I was seeing her.  I have been seeing her weekly for the first trimester.  Since I can use my HSA dollars to pay for it I have continued but it is very expensive so without that I probably would not have continued.  She has suggested I continue until I am out of the first trimester and then I will probably discontinue until I am closer to my due date as research has shown it can help ease labor.  To be honest, I don't know if I totally believe in it all BUT I do know that I am a more relaxed person and I feel lighter and less stressed so what ever works!  I also have less headaches and eased symptoms.

Thanks - this is kinda what I was thinking as well.

And I'm with you on both the expense and the skepticism.  But like you said - whatever works!  At this point, keeping it up through first tri is easy enough.

Sorry to hear about your previous loss.  I hope this is it for you!
