Re: all-inclusive toddler friendly resorts

  • Last April we went to Cancun with DS.  He was about 20 months.  Stayed at Fiesta Americana Condesa which is all inclusive which i thought was really nice with a toddlers.  Pool had nice shallow area for DS to walk around in and play.  Not much geared just for kids and only a small swing set but I didn't want to spend the whole day at the play ground.  He had fun just exploring and playing on the beach.  We like Cancun b/c it's beautiful, direct flight from Pittsburgh, and easy to get around.  Bus stops right out front of hotels for exploring.  March and April I find to be a little expensive b/c of spring break.  Just keep checking.

  • We stayed at an iberostar awhile ago when my nephews were young and they were kid friendly.

  • It's not a full all inclusive but we went to the Atlantis in May and loved it. DD stayed and ate for free and DH and I had a meal plan for breakfast and dinner. Alcohol was not included but the prices for drinks were reasonable IMO.

  • We went to one in April '10 when DS was about 16 months.  Friends came too whose DS was about 2 months younger.  Dreams Tulum, which is south of Cancun.

The picture on the left above "resort information" is taken from the building we stayed in.  The kiddie pool (pictured) is great, and the Tiki bar was right there too. :)

They had a kids club (Explorer's Club):

It was too old for DS, but we saw the group come by the pool each day, and the leaders were really good w/ the kdis, and the kids seemed to be having a blast.

I also loved the bathrooms in our rooms - they were HUGE.  As DS was in a PNP, we actually put the PNP in the shower (it was that big) at night time w/ a fan for noise.  The toilet was in the same room, but w/ a seperate door - so we could sneak in and use it while he slept, but we were also able to hang out in our room, watch TV, our friends could come over, etc.

  • We went to the Holiday Sunspree in Montego Bay, Jamaica when DD was 14 months old.  There was a kids camp type thing, but we only used it once, when DH got sick and I needed a babysitter for a few hours so I could get some things done.  Food and drinks were included for all of us and we got a ground floor room so we could play w/ DD outside.  We had a blast (minus DH's food poisoning!) and there were lots of families w/ small kids around.

  • I wanted to add- whereever you go, I personally recommend asking for a room w/ a view of the ocean.  The resort we stayed at had "garden rooms" that were at the back of the property.  I think it was something like $150 for the week to upgrade.

I KNEW we'd be stuck in our room part of the time between naps and then DS's bedtime.  I wanted to at least be able to sit on our balcony and see the water!  Luckily, our rooms also ended up being right by the pool where the kiddie pool was.

Our friends initially were like "we'd rather not upgrade".  Our travel agent was able to get their extra cost down to about $90 (she worked some stuff w/ flights, etc), and if they still had said "no", we were seriously going to just pay it for them.

Once we got there and saw how the resort was set up, they realized why we had been so adament about wanting ocean view.  :)

  • In October of 2011, we stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.  DD was 16 months when we stayed there.  It was great.  They have a great beach, the water is gorgeous, and they also have an entire designated pool area for kids with slides.  They had about 3 different kid pools for different ages.  We were not charged anything for her in terms of an all inclusive fee.  The resort had a ton of restaurant options and all kid friendly.  They also had an arcade and a kids club inside the resort for the kids.  We have also been to Beaches and it was very nice.  I have noticed that in the last few years Beaches has become very expensive and I thought the Hard Rock was cheaper.  Enjoy the planning and the trip!
