Re: Menopur burn??

  • Sometimes injecting it slowly helps with the burn..  but pretty much, it's gonna sting.

I didn't find icing it helped, for me, because it wasn't the needle that hurt, but the reaction between my skin and the meds.

    Sorry.  Good luck!!!

Same for me. Ice didn't really help. That shot just burns!!!!! I found it wasn't any better to go slowly, so I just went as quickly as possible, and had a treat waiting for me each night after my shots! GL!

  • ok it's not just me...the shot itself is easy, it's the burn of the medicine going into my fat/ skin.  Guess I just have to suck it up.

thanks ladies and good luck to you!

  • I ice and inject slowly. I stop when the stinging starts and then start again once it subsides. I hope that helps. GL!

  • :(  I'm sorry.  For me, Menopur has been the most painful injection.  Ughh.  I had nights where the pain would literally make me feel nauseous.  Everyone responds differently, but for me, icing helped.  I would ice for about 20 minutes beforehand. It still burns, but it took the edge off somewhat.  The nurses at my clinic said that it's the sodium chloride that you use as a diluent that causes the burn.  Whatever it is, it sucks.  Ughh.  Hang in there.  You can do this!

  • I haven't gotten to my Menopur yet but my nurse said there's nothing to really prevent the burn, just gotta suck it up. I'm dreading it. My stomach (and mood) is already blue from the Lupron. :(

Interesting.  I bet that's why the HGH hurts so much.  You use the whole vial for that one!!

    Thanks!

This is exactly what I do.  I also asked my RE to switch me to something less burn-y, which he did.

  • the easiest thing to do is use more saline to dilute the meds down a little more. yes, you will be injecting more fluid in which can cause more of a pressure sensation, but pick your poison...burn or pressure. i do find injecting slower helps, but it sounds like a very concentrated dose that needs a little more watering down. good luck

  • I did my first one last night. I think the ice helped. I also think reading on here how much it burned helped too, because I was expecting it to be even worse than it was.

Hmmm, I wonder...I use 3 vials of Menpour with only 1ml of saline (not the whole vial) per instructions - I guess I should ask the nurse tomorrow...

  • icing helped me tremedously......leave it on for a little longer than usual and it will numb deeper and hopefully lessen the burn.  good luck!

  • Injecting the meds at a much slower rate works for me.....good luck!
