6w growth spurt?

DS's 3w growth spurt was not what I was expecting. He ate more often for one day only and it was done. Pretty painless.

I'm now waiting for his next one to start. Nothing different has happened yet. He's been sleeping a lot during the day for the past week, but nothing has changed in his feeding patterns.

I know they call it the 6w growth spurt, but is there a more general time frame associate to it? Has anyone not experienced the growth spurt craziness I keep reading about?

Perhaps I am a little impatient...

Re: 6w growth spurt?

  • Personally I could rarely ever pinpoint anything to a growth spurt. But B rarely ever slept more than an hour or 2 in a row for the first 7ish months of her life, so I was pretty constantly feeding her around the clock all the time. It's still amazing to me that with eating every two hours for that many months she still hasn't even cracked 20 lbs!

Now that sleeping and eating are a bit better regulated in our house I have not noticed anything for the supposed 9 month growth spurt either.

  • I've heard babies either do an eating growth spurt or a sleeping spurt, or sometimes both.  Isaac didn't really do an eating spurt until this last week.  Now, the 6 week, 9 week, 12 week and 6 month growth spurts meant that he would take 3-4 hour naps, wake up for an hour and go back to sleep, then STTN.  Yeah, I was lucky.  He would do this for 2-3 days then back to normal.  He took 40 oz of formula every day for the last 3 days and now he's back to normal on eating (about 20-24 oz per day).

  • The only growth spurt that I could really recognize was the 10 day one with DD. Since then I've never been able to recognize them.  I have hunches, like maybe DS is a little sleepier than normal, but we don't have days where we nurse every hour. Do you have a really good milk supply?  I've always had a lot of supply and have had oversupply issues, so sometimes I think that has something to do with it.
  • I chalk just about everything abnormal up to growth spurt.  I really don't think they can say that at this exact time every baby will go through a growth spurt, ya know?  Every once in a while where he can't seem to eat enough..no matter how often I feed him.  Or all he wants to do is sleep.  Maybe he's a little crabbier for a day or two.  I blame it all on growth spurts.

I definitely do. So that might explain it.
