Awesome book to read!

My sister (a mother a two) sent me a couple of books to read during my pregnancy. One is 'Your pregnancy week by week" which goes into detail whats going on in your tummy, tips for nutrition and little excersizes to help with blood flow and tight muscles and to increase flexibility.

The other book I totally love so far, and just started it today. It is called 'Secrets of the baby whisperer' While reading it, it kind of seems like you would read it after your baby is born, but I think reading it before will make it easier once you have LO here. It talks about getting the baby into a routine, and how to do so and so on and so forth... It has a lot of good insights in it.

She told me NOT to read 'What to expect when expecting' She said while she was pregnant and reading it, she turned into an emotional wreck, and her husband literally took the book out of her hands and threw it away... She said it will just fill your mind with insecurities and hypothetical situations etc. So I wont even glance at it...

Just thought I would pass the word of a couple of good books out there!

  • I am googling those two books as we speak! Thanks!

  • Those are great books.  I also liked 'Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy' and 'Belly Laughs' by Jenny McCarthy.

  • Thanks, I have been eyeing 'Your Pregnancy Week by Week' for a few days now. Good to have the endorsement.
  • It's funny that you mention NOT to read "what to expect...." I saw the Nurse Practioner at my OBGYN's office last week (just for routine blood work) and she told me that the book will fill my head and make me worry.  I read the first couple of chapters the first 2 times I was pregnant (both resulted in m/c) but I only try to read up to the part where I am right now HOWEVER as fate would have it I cannot find the book this time and my DH told me it was divine intervention LOL......  My doc. gave me a light reader of "your pregnancy week by week" and it seemed really informative (again I only read up to the part I am at LOL I don't like to jump ahead too much)

Thanks so much for the suggestions. I am actually going to Barnes & Noble today after my appt. (So excited about it BTW)!!

Best of luck to you! :)

  • I am in the middle of reading The Baby Bump book.  I know, I know, we are on this website everyday.  But I really love the book because it is set up like this website.  It was fairly inexpensive from Amazon.com.  I, too, got freaked out by What to Except... during my first pregnancy.  So, this time around I am only reading certain sections.
  • read belly laughs. It is funny and light too. I used what to expect as a reference guide, it can be really helpful, so I wouldnt write it off completely.

  • I've been reading The Mayo Clinic's Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy and really liking it. I wanted something that would prep me for TTC and as luck would have it, we made it past that stage almost before I could finish the chapter. (Dumb luck or a blessing, but praying it sticks!!!)

I have also heard The Belly Book is neat, but I think it is more of a journal. I am really tempted to go get it so I can log the journey, but I am terrified to get too invested emotionally too soon. Am I kidding myself?

  • So, I just went onto Amazon and looked up Belly Laughs, I started reading the exert they had and I was hooked, so I went to buy the book, but this new (to me anyways) thing they have... Kindle for PC= AMAZING! I bought the book for that, and it was cheaper, and BAM! It popped up on my screen, and was able to start reading! I think this is totally going to help my long work days from now on!

  • 'Week by Week' is a good book. It's the one I got with my first pregnancy. I also really like the Pregnancy Bible. It has lots and lots of great color pictures and diagrams. Also, Ina Mays Guide to Childbirth is my favorite book. It's informative and empowering, no matter what kind of birth you choose to have or end up having.

I read Belly Laughs in two days.  Very funny and informative at the same time.

My doctor recommended What to Expect, and I picked up a copy from Half Price Books for around $6.  Like someone earlier posted, I use it as a reference, and use the information to determine if the advice pertains to me or to make educated decisions.

  • I actually liked WTE. I refuse to read Belly Laughs because Jenny McCarthy is an anti-vax dumbass.
