Pretty sure the answer is no, but...

Does anyone here have a walker yet? I mean a baby that is walking? Just wondering if any LO's have taken their first steps. I think we still have a few weeks before this comes.

Re: Pretty sure the answer is no, but...

  • I have a cruiser. She has also stood without holding on to anything for a couple of seconds but she didn't realize she did it. If someone holds her hands she "walks" pretty well.

  • i think we're pretty far off here. p will kneel & tries to stick one leg out, kind of like he seems to want to try to stand up, but he hasn't figured it out yet. then if we hold his hands & try to walk with him he just goes limp.

of course i'd like to see him hit milestones when he should but i can honestly & selfishly say i'm not quite ready to see him walk yet. friends of ours have a 13 old that was literally running when he was as young as 10mns & they struggle on outings with him now. he throws fits being in the stroller b/c he knows how much more fun it is to walk but they're obviously not ready to just give him free rein when they're out so they deal w/ the battles but their outings are quite short & usually pretty stressful. i don't know if that's just him or if most kids who start walking go through a little phase like that. BUT at the same time, we're due w/ #2 when p will be about 14mns so i do want to see him walking well before then, just not quite ready yet :)

  • Not yet...stood on his own for a few seconds, cruises in his crib or PNP, took steps as his activity table slid across the floor - he was holding onto it, or will "walk" if we hold his hands but not walking yet.
  • No walking here. She shuffles or side steps around the ottoman, and the play table. I have caught her maybe a handful of times just standing there, but she won't make the move forward. It is definitley too soon for that, and I am good with it! lol. She just started to pick up the pace crawling, its nuts how fast she is.

I've been starting to suspect that early walkers/early active kids end up like this and it's making me quite nervous too. I've always thought it was cruel and crazy to put a kid on a leash. On the other hand, when a kid runs all over the place it can be very dangerous. On a leash that kid ends up getting a bit of room to roam without being able to wander off.

  • She cruises and walks behind her walker. I haven't seen her stand alone yet. I'm not betting on it happening soon because DS did all this at 8 months too but he didn't walk on his own until 13 months.

  • DD cruises all day long. She gets SO proud of herself when she goes from the couch, to the table, to the other couch, to the door. She's been standing unassisted a lot lately and that is scaring me. I started walking at 8 months old, which is also scary. I think we're still a couple months off though.

  • Not yet here. He cruises all over the place, and recently started turning around when he leans on stuff so just his back is up against it for balance. I have a feeling he'll be walking by his birthday. :(

  • Kain has been standing, and "walking" around the ottoman and coffee table for quite some time, but he has started to let go and stand on his own alot more frequently.  Still no steps quite yet though.

  • Shoot we are still working on crawling forward!  She has backwards down, and does an "inchworm" forward pulling both knees at the same time.  She can pull to standing but not over and over, as it takes a lot of effort.
  • DS is pulling up and cruising, but he is not walking yet.  In fact, he still prefers army crawling instead of traditional crawling because he can move faster that way.  This is very weird to me, given the fact that he can pull up and walk along the furniture.

DD started walking the day she turned 9 months (which would be today for DS), and I thought it was way too early.  She was running by the time she was 10 months old, and climbing out of her crib at 15 months.  I do not wish this on anyone, and I hope DS does not do things as early as his sister did.
