Constipation

Ughhh!!! For me, this is the worst symptom I've been experiencing. The rest is manageable so far, but the constipation is killing me. Is anyone else having this issue and if so, have you found a food that helps you through? I'm trying to stay away from taking fiber, because the stomach cramps are not something I want to experience alongside ms.

Re: Constipation

  • Drink apple juice EVERYDAY!

  • You can take stool softeners.  With morning sickness, I eat what I can, which aren't always the best choices as far as fiber.  Stool softeners are safe and don't make you go; they make it easier to go.  Truly a life saver.

  • Applesauce seems to help.  Apple juice, too or you could go the medicated route.

    Good luck! Sad

  • Apple Juice works, especially the cheap walmart kind lol but causes the stomach cramps for me, but it's nothing compared to the constipation! Blaaaah!
  • Lots of fluids, fiber one bars, plum juice, and docusate.  My OB also said that Miralax is ok if you need it, but check with your OB first.
  • A few sips of iced coffee worked for me during that phase...and eating a few prunes each morning.

  • Lots of spinach, Miralax but ask your OB

  • As soon as I found out I was pregnant, I went from eating one piece of fruit a day to 3 pieces (usually 2 apples and a peach). I also started drinking juice, which I normally don't drink. Lot of water, lots of juice, lots of fruit. You really want to keep your stool soft so it can pass thru easily. Good luck!

  • Thanks for all of the suggestions, ladies! Hopefully this will be a better week. :)
  • try prunes.  They don't taste great but the day after eating one of those you will have relief!
  • Prunes and Fiber One bars work for me - and drinking lots of water while I'm eating them. It's very uncomfortable; hopefully you find something that helps!!

not sure how long you have or if you have been taking prenatals but the iron can make you constipated.

  • Oh me too!  Its horrible!  I'm going to the OB tomorrow so I'll ask more questions there.  I have upped my fruit and veggies, but still I can't go.  I might have to do the mirilax or metamucil soon!  We'll see what the doc says, but I'm glad I'm not alone!
  • I've been dealing with horrible constipation as well. A little bit of prune juice seems to do the trick. It doesn't taste all that great but it's totally worth it. Good luck!
  • A bowl of Fiber One frosted shredded wheat or Fiber One Raisin Clusters and 2 prunes every morning followed by a big glass of water seem to be the magic formula for me.  Any time I vary from that routine, I seem to have trouble.
